My Dell Inspiron 1521 stopped working and the screen went blank. I tried to reboot, but no luck. I removed the battery and changed to a 9-cell, but that also does not do anything. I have it plugged into the outlet, but the screen is black. The one time it did do anything of interest was when it showed thin vertical lines on the screen for a brief second. The power light is on and the battert light blinks about every 7 seconds. I tried to press the on button and hold the Fn key, but all that does is make the lttle locks on the top of the keyboard (labled 9 and A) blink. Can anyone help?
It sounds like either the Video Card or the LCD has failed.
Have you tried connecting an external monitor and see if you get any video?
also, try running PSA diagnostics. Hold the Fn Key while pressing power button, to start the diags, see if you get any video. If you get no video after 50 seconds, you should hear a beep, press N and see if a Set of solid color screens comes on the LCD. If it does, then issue is the video card or cable connection. You can try reseating the video cable to the video card (Connection is under keyboard)
hey I had the exact same problem and I plugged it into my TV which I use as a monitor and started it up! The LCD immediately shot on:) Before I did this the laptop would start up but the LCD displayed nothing on the laptop. Definitely try plugging your laptop into an external display (ex TV or monitor) before you start worrying! The cable I plugged it in with was I think called a DVI cable located on the right side of the laptop beside the SD/MMC and 1934 connectors. Thanks so much to Dageezer for posting that suggestion. You da man!
