A computer that is running Windows XP cannot detect a USB flash drive, an Apple iPod, or an external hard disk drive

To fix this problem, delete the UpperFilters registry value and the LowerFilters registry value. These values may cause access problems. (from Microsoft website)

I have a Fujitsu 80gb Sata hard Drive (2.5) which I have an adapter to use as a external Harddrive. However my computer and others only recognise it as a 14 gb drive. How do I get the full 80gb?

It seems this is caused by setting jumpers on your hard disk. Checkand return it to the correct position. Normally, your disk should be inthe position of Master or Slave.

> cannot see any data

Is that what you expected?
Or, are you sure that you have written files to it?

> put [the 80GB disk-drive] in a new box for $40

That's slightly above a "normal" price for an "empty" external hard-drive, but if the price includes "labour", then $40 is a good price.

But, if there really is "no data", then it's time to buy a complete brand-new external drive -- $100 will get you 500GB, with a 3-year warranty.

Samsung Pleomax SAM MD-205 driver?

It took me a lot of digging to try and find a driver download. You can try the UHD25-80GB driver (this is for Windows 98, but you can try to see if it fixes the problem): http://www.samsungpleomax.com/sup_03_01.asp?page=2&fcate=Driver+download&scate=Storage+Media&tcate=HDD&scateg=Storage%20Media&tcateg=HDD. Direct link to zip file: http://www.samsungpleomax.com/sup/cs/HDD-driver-2500-80GB%20DRIVER.zip

Also, specs indicate that you need USB 2.0 or 1.1. I had problems connecting via a 4-port hub (that was supposed to support USB 2.0) so ended up connecting directly via my computer USB ("Enhanced" = 2.0) slot, which seemed to work fine.

Formatting a Samsung MP0804H IDE extrernal HDD from NTFS to FAT32

Hi there Dave, well you can use a software called Partition Magic 8 to convert your 80GB hard disk to utilise FAT32. This software is quite user friendly. There are several options for you to choose form in this software including resizing your drive and creating partitions on the fly. However some settings requites a computer restart or reboot in order to complete successfully. This software can be obtained from most software stores or even download form the internet. After installing the software and running it, your drive should show inside the programme; right click on the drive you want to change a setting and select the options available. At the 'Format' button select FAT32. You will be asked for drive letters and cluster size but you can use the default settings, then apply the settings. Once you are done with that select the Okay button in the main programme window and the formatting process will start. Hope this helped you. Cheers :-)

External hard disk and pcmcia cardbus

There may not be enough power from the cardbus to run it. That bus is very low current to power it up so you will need the power cord.

Try reinstalled the card drivers.

PC not recognising the slave drive

Assuming you set it as slave or cable select as required by the motherboard, you have to first get the bios to recognise it press F2 or Del on boot up to enter cmos and then there should be an option to auto detect drives, save settings for a re boot. When in windows, right click on my computer icon and select manage>disk management and then your drives will be listed, right click on the slave drive and select format or set as active and it will then show, but only 137GB may show depending on the bios version.
