Photo printing is too dark. I have replaced all print cartridges and it still prints too dark. Thanks for your help.

  • Anonymous Jan 08, 2008

I have an intell mac and the print quality is not good. They print far too dark and the colour balance is wrong. I have downloaded new driver software but this has made no difference. I always adjust paper type and quality as a matter of course. Any ideas.

I had this and after hours of searching on the net for a solution it seemed it was a clash between the Epson Software and XP SP2 that was causing the problem.  I have to print through a 3rd party photo editing programme to get it to work properly.  I currently use the Epson Photoquicker and PS7 and it works fine - if I print straight from windows it prints WAY too dark.

Did you choose the right profile for your printing profile also means the type of media or paper you are using for example is it a photo paper or is it just a plain paper, you have to choose, or else this type of problem will occur.

How to change the ink cartridge

Follow these instructions when you need to replace print cartridges.

• Everyday printing: Use a black cartridge along with a tri-color cartridge.
• Color photos: Use a photo cartridge along with a tri-color cartridge.
To replace the print cartridges
1. Make sure the HP All-in-One is on.
CAUTION: If the HP All-in-One is off when you open the print cartridge door to
access the print cartridges, the HP All-in-One will not release the cartridges for
changing. You might damage the HP All-in-One if the print cartridges are not
docked safely when you try to remove them.
2. Make sure you have letter or A4 unused plain white paper loaded in the input tray.
3. Open the print cartridge door.
The print carriage moves to the far right side of the HP All-in-One.
4. Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on a print
cartridge to release it.
If you are replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the
slot on the left.
If you are replacing the black or photo print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from
the slot on the right.
1 Print cartridge slot for the tri-color print cartridge
2 Print cartridge slot for the black and photo print cartridges
5. Pull the print cartridge towards you out of its slot.
6. If you are removing the black print cartridge in order to install the photo print cartridge,
store the black print cartridge in the print cartridge protector or an airtight plastic
container.
7. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and, being careful to touch only
the black plastic, gently remove the plastic tape by using the pink pull tab.
1 Copper-colored contacts
2 Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing)
3 Ink nozzles under tape
CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. Also, do
not re-tape the print cartridges. Doing so can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad
electrical connections.
8. Hold the print cartridge with the HP logo on top, and insert the new print cartridge into
the empty cartridge slot. Make sure you push the print cartridge in firmly until it snaps
into place.
If you are installing the tri-color print cartridge, slide it into the left slot.
If you are installing a black or photo print cartridge, slide it into the right slot.
9. Close the print cartridge door.greatcir.png

I have a hp officejet 5510 that prints the first line and the next is light and than dark and than light again

Hi,
The problem could be caused due to blocked printer nozzles or bad print head. Try cleaning the ink nozzles first.
1 Press Setup.
2 Press 5, then press 1.
This selects Tools and then selects Clean Print Cartridge.
A page of patterns is printed. The print cartridges are cleaned. Recycle or
discard the page.
If copy or print quality still seem poor after you clean the print cartridges,
replace the print cartridge that is affected. For information on replacing
print cartridges, see replace the print cartridges.
