Question about HP PSC 2410 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Hp psc 2310 is "stuck"

My hp psc2310 was working fine until recently. The problem has been occurring intermittently over past month or so, but I could usually fix by simply unplugging power and reconnecting. (Coincidentally, I installed Vista around about the same time). Now nothing seems to help and I can't print, or scan or copy.

When I turn the printer on, display says "Initialising" then machine makes a clunking sound as if print cartridges are stuck and aren't moving . This noise goes on for approx 1 - 2 minutes then message says" Scanner failure - turn power off".

I have tried cleaning all the bits I can get to, partial reset and various versions of a full reset but nothing seems to be working.

Can anyone help me please ?

I have been having the same problem for over nine months. I turn the machine on and for about 1 min you get this loud clunking sound. Then that stops and the "egg-timer" comes up in the window and that's it. None of the controls work and the machine freezes. I originally managed to get round this by unplugging and plugging it back in several times, and eventually it worked. Once it was working, I decided to never turn it off, so it's been ok (although very bad for the environment, as it's wasting electricity). However, I was doing some scanning the other day, and on the third scan the loud clunking noise suddenly started, and now the machine is well and truly stuck.

Any ideas please...I certainly won't buy HP again after this experience.

Thanks everyone - I cleaned the bottom of the glass as a last resort . It was a bit fiddly but amazingly it worked first go!

I don't understand why it worked but I am back in action - at least for now. Thanx everyone for your help.

This has been solved in the fixyourownprinter.com forum. Clean the bottom of the scanner glass. You have to take a bit of it apart but it's not hard with the help of this HP site: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00553775&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=303753&dlc=en&lang=en

Good luck.

I had the same problem and started the process to clean the glass...removing the cover and the panel...
Turns out I didn't have the correct screwdriver to remove the screws to get to the glass. In the meantime I noticed that one of the cables under the "control" panel wasn't connected when I removed the panel. I connected it and put the panel and cover back until I could get the correct screwdriver. When I turned on the printer, it started working correctly - no noise or hour glass! So it was a cable that had come loose.

Remove and check cartridge

If you already changed the cartridges for new ones, there should be a problem with the printer's carriage.
You need to take it to a repair store, but I advice you to buy a new one, because the price you will pay for the repair should be the same or more than what you pay for a new printer.
