Earthing an amp

I have a sony 350watt 2 channel amp running 6x9s in my 1999 holden commodore executive series 2 . There is a whine sound but im not sure where its from. I used a filter but the sound is still there. The powerwires and audiowires are seperated along different sides. Iam sure its from the grounding of the earth because there is no sound on the top of the towbar. I place the earth on the negative terminal on the battery but still makes sound, thats the best earth in the whole car. Where is the best earth position other than the battery and enginebay in a 1999 holden commodore executive series 2?

I FOUND WHEN RUNNING MY AMPS IN MY COMMODORE, THAT THE BEST EARTH IS ACTUALLY THE SUB FRAME OF THE CAR!!
AS IF YOU FOLLOW THE NEG LEAD FROM YOUR BATTERY IT WILL BOLD ONTO THE CHASSIE OF THE VIEHCLE. SO I JUST EARTHED OUT ALL MY AMPS AND SO ON TO THE BODY (MAKING SURE THERE WAS A GOOD CONNECTION)
ALSO MAKE SURE YOUR HEAD DECK IS NOT TOUCHING ANY METAL PARTS IN WHERE YOU MOUNTED IT!!!!! GOOD LUCK....

You want your earth to be as short as possible. So find somewhere in your boot or under the seat where you have the amp mounted, you will want to run 4gauge wiring. The positive you want to have a fuse preferable 1m or less from the battery. In my experience it is alot easier to run the amp power line down the underside of the car and into the boot as there is always grommets in the boot floor like for where the fuel tank wires run out from. From my experience it is better to have the negative less than 1m long. you may not be getting the noise through your amp it could be coming from the stereo via someother part in the car. Try a noise supressor available from any auto parts store.

What each colourvwiringis for in vx ,2002,Commodore

The Holden Commodore (VX) is an executive car that was produced by the Australian manufacturer Holden from 2000 to 2002. It was the second iteration of the third generation of this Australian made model. Its range included the luxury variants, Holden Berlina (VX) and Holden Calais (VX), and it formed the basis for a new generation Holden Ute (VU) coup? utility and Holden Monaro (V2) coup?.
The VX series was produced between October 2000 and September 2002, as a minor restyling update to the VT series from 1997. It introduced greater model differentiation along with gains in crash safety. An intermediate Series II was launched in August 2001, featuring a revised suspension system among other changes.

Noise brakes

Sounds like you need new disc pads to me. If you drive it like that for too long, the rotors will score and have to be either reconditioned or replaced if there is not enough meat let on them.

How to hook it up to system with two 10s 400 watts per sub and two 6x9s at 200 watts each?,subs behind seats, 6x9s in doors. IF i need another amp i have one,to help push. But either way i need your help...

Hello www_mitzjohn,

I'd definitely use another amp.

The 2-channel Sony is well suited for powering the 6X9's but a monoblock would be better for the subs. The different types of speakers running from the same channel will not sound very good and likely it'll be impossible to get the impedances to match.

You'll want to set the Sony to send higher frequencies to the 6X9's, but not to the subs. You can't adjust the channels individually. So, just connect each 6X9 to one channel of the Sony and use a monoblock subwoofer amp for the subs.

Hope this helps.

Can a rf 201s amp push 4-6x9s and 4-104s door speakers

Hello jon_jonmay,

Wiring 4 speakers to each of 2 channels, you will need to wire them series-parallel and run them at 4 ohms. If you wire all 4 parallel, the load will be 1 ohm and the amp is only stable down to 2 ohms.

According to your manual, the 201s will deliver 50 watts into each channel at 4 ohms . So it will be supplying about 12.5 watts per speaker which is about what you get with the average factory radio. They will work OK, but they're not going to be very loud.

Hope this helps.
