How big are the files that you are trying to copy? Are any of them larger then 4 Gigs? And are your drives formatted with Fat 32 or NTFS?

What filing systems do the passport drives use and how large are each of the files ?

If they are fat 32 and the files are each larger then 4gb then that is why it will not work as fat32 does not support or allow more then 4gb per file due to the filing system so you would need to format it as NTFS if you want to store files larger then 4 gigs

You may have hidden files on the drive. Unhide them by hitting the Alt key and going to tools

Select Folder Options

Go to "View" and select the two indicated options below and hit OK.

This will unhide what ever files you have. If you dont find the files taking up your space, just copy what ever files you need to your hard drive temporarily or another USB drive and format the disk.

My samsung external hard drive can't copy large files

Well I would say make sure that the size of the file you're sending is lower than the available free space on your external hard disk.

And also, some ext. Hard disk has partitions, make sure your pasting in the right partition that has free space.

I hope this helps. Thanks for using FixYa!

Are you putting the files in folders on the hard drive and not directly on the drive? Anytime you save files you have to put them in a folder or the drive will say it's full. Make sure that all your files on the hard drive are in folders.

How many directory deep is the file going that you are trying to save? I believe the maximum NTFS file (location + name) of file length can not exceed 256 characters total.

Example: C:\user\documents\file.exe is OK

But: C:\user\documents\folder\folder\folder\folder\folder\this folder name 230 charicters long\file.exe BAD

Not enough disk space to copy

Scan the drive due to possibly virus managing your disk drive. Virus can easily access through USB hard drives. If not solve the problem, so its better to format.

To format the drive to allow files larger then 4GB: Open up My Computer, Right click on the Western Digital Drive. Select Format from the list. Under file System, select NTFS. Under format options Check Quick Format. Click Start to format.

Warning! Formatting will delete all data and files on the drive. Make sure to transfer all your files to another drive before preforming a format!
