It was probably connected backwards in polarity from a power supply which burnt a diode. These things have backwards polarity of 9v adapters which means positive on the outside of the plug and ground in the middle, unless you have the original boss power supply.If you have a generic power supply, cut the plug off and switch the wires and try it.
If ut is not a digital tuner then you will not pick up any stations. Look at your owners manual to see if the tuner is digital. If its not then you will have to buy a digital converter box.
There is no setting within the set to increase any performance and is not recommended...backlight can be corrected but take help.
What can be done is to have the contrast and brigtness reset to give the best result.
You can use a normal set top box, plugged into the AV inputs on the combo, you could even use a seperate VCR for this, as long as it's recieving the signal you want to record.
This unit will only work if you have a digital cable connection box. If you get cable service you will have this service if not you will need to buy a digital to analog converter box. This can be purchased at any large electronics store, like Fry's or the Micro Center. You can also purchase them on line. Use you favorite search engine and plug in Television digital to analog converter boxes. The search engine will bring up places to purchase them. I hope this information help you with your problem.
