Whirlpool Gold Ultimate Care II Electric Dryer not hot on ''high''

I have a Whirlpool Gold Ultimate Care II GEQ9800LW1 electric dryer that seems to not be very hot on the ''high/heavy'' temperature setting and isn't drying clothes properly. I took apart the vent inside and cleaned everything out and it didn't appear to be blocked. I have very good air flow out the vent to the outside of the house. When I put the dryer on ''high/heavy'' and hold my hand over the vent I can just keep it there . . . when I turn it to ''medium/casual'' it gets hot enough that I need to move my hand. Can this be the heating element? I'd appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks.

My question concerns an electric dryer and the fix I got was for a gas dryer.

  • s2canter Apr 14, 2009

    Robert,

Thanks for your response. It is hotter on the lower "medium/casual" setting than on the "high/heat" setting. On "medium/casual" it is hot enough that I have to move my hand away, but on "high" I can keep my hand there indefinitely. So, different parts of the element heat up with different settings? Thanks again.

Hi!

This issue is due to high limit thermostat(or thermal cut off fuse, if your dryer was manufactured between 1985-1995)

High limit/safety thermostat is used in electric clothes dryers. With this thermostat, a dryer's heating element will cut out if the internal temperature reaches 250 degrees Fahrenheit. The element will kick back in when the temperature drops to 170 degrees Fahrenheit. And if this thermostat goes bad then it can cut off much well before the temperature reaches above 250 degrees Fahrenheit.

Please see part # 47 (high limit thermostat) and 48 (thermal cut off fuse)---

It does indeed sound like the element... when you have it on high/heavy heat... does it feel any hotter then the setting before that ?

On a gas dryer, if the thermal fuse blows it will still rotate, but will not heat. Since this is a gas dryer, see if the ignitor is glowing. If it is, then you know the thermal fuse is good. If not, the thermal fuse may be blown or the ignitor itself and thus the reason for no heat.

it could be your heating element but if you use dryer sheets take your lint trap out and see how well water will run thru it it may need to be washed in hot soapy water hope this helps

Whirlpool gold ultimate care II dryer shuts off then won't start for a while.

I am assuming this is a gas dryer and it gets hot to start then gas goes off? if so this is a problem with the saftey valve coils, this website will instruct you how to replace them.

I have a whirlpool gold ultimate care II electric dryer and have to dry everything on high twice to get it dried. any suggestions?

first how is the clothes out of the washer? That might not be spinning fast enough in final spin. When was the last time the dryer vents was cleaned. Do you have a flow out the vent? If so then something might be going on with sensors.

Hi, there sould be a two piece door catch. One piece on the door and another on the front panel that the door closes to. Look at the piece on the door. You will probably find it is bad. You can buy just that piece and change it. I hope this helps. If I can assist you further please let me know.

Thanks
