Burner stops cycling-stays red on medium

One burner sometimes fails to cycle, stays red, when on lower setting than high, burns food unexpectedly. Turning dial thru cycle fixes temporarily. That burmer made funny noises from day one when stove was new.

The dial you're talking about is called an "infinite switch" and the burner only does as it is told to do by this switch. Since you'r having issues with it, I can guarantee that it's the switch that giving you grief and needs to be replaced.

You didn't mention which burner is the problem, but there are only 2 inf. switches for this machine.

Small Burner Large Burner
P# 7403P238-60 P# 7403P239-60

Easy to replace and the bonus is that which ever one you need, the cost is ~$45.00!

All you gotta do (after you have the switch) is to pull the oven out so you can get behind it to work. If it's plugged into the wall UNPLUG IT! If it's hard wired and there is no plug, go outside to your main breaker panel and kill power to the oven.

Now remove all the screws holding the aluminum rear control panel cover and set it aside. You'll now see all the inf. switches. DO NOT REMOVE WIRES FROM THE FAILED SWITCH JUST YET! Remove the knob from the failed switch, under there you'll see 2 screws holding it in place... remove these AFTER you have noticed which direction the "D" shaped shaft is oriented (is the flat side of the "D" at the top? the bottom? the side?)
Now you have the old one out... still without removing the wires from the old one... install the new one with NO wires connected just yet. Now.... pull one wire at a time from the old one and place it on the EXACT terminal on the new one. Do this for each of the wires until the old one is bare and the new one is loaded with wires.

Replace the rear panel, push it back in place and fire it up!

Easy-Breezy... in and out in less than an hour.

On our glass top GE Profile stove, the burners do not stay on - they keep turning off and then on again before coming to full temp. Extra long time, for example, for water to boil.

They cycle off once they have reached the temp that you set, then come back on to keep that temp, my suggestion is increase the set temp.

Computer will scan the music its going to burn but when it is done scanning it puts up message "could not complete please make sure disc is clean or use a new disc or to set the burn speed to...

I don't know if this is the case or not, but most burners will fail if you try to use an off name type of disk.
I have had a burner in my computers for several years now, and here is what I have found.
TDK, Maxell, and Dynex brand disks work almost every time.
Sony disks work most of the time, but only at lower to medium speeds.
Memorex disks are a crapshoot, you could have a stack of 50, and maybe 3 or 4 will fail, and then again, maybe 15-20 will fail.
GQ brand works great at slower speeds, but fail alot at high speeds.

Also, you may want to invent in a lens cleaner disk, as it might be that three is dust and dirt inside your burner, and that is what is causing your burner to fail out no you.

I hope this helps you out, and good luck to you.

Whirlpool dishwasher has food particles baked on.

Heating element may fail. This will lead to the machine stopping part way through its cycle

Pumps. There are 2 pumps in most dishwashers. The drain pump,( which describes itself -it pumps the water out of the machine.)
The recirculating pump which forces the water at high pressure through the spray nozzles and arms. (This is how the cleaning action is performed)
These pump may either leak, or burn out. Either way, the only solution is replacement.

Hello My gemini top burners cycle on and off,

The burners are designed to cycle on and off, it is technology that helps to keep from burning food. If you are using the correct pan to burner size ratio and high setting on your burner, the water should boil in the normal time. Don't watch the pot (just kidding)

The heater heats up, the blower comes on for a minute then goes off, and continues to cycle like this

Good Morning, So, you say the heater does heat up, the fan will cycle on and shuts back down in a minute, and continues to cycle this way. A few things that will cause this. But let me ask this first, does the burners stay on through this short cycling of fan? Let me know if we don't solve it before that. I don't know if you're t-stat is programmable or a mechanical? Anyway, you have what they call a heat anticipator on stats which will cycle unit on and off like this if they have burned out. If it is a mechanical (mercury switch) type, pull the cover and you will see a small dial with numbers and a arrow on it. Set it to .4 and if its programmable, you will have to go into the program to do this. Normally it is set at factory to .4 amps and the setting varies with the amps on the gas valve as they should match. I assume you have been there for sometime and this problem has just started.I wish I knew if the burners were shutting off when the fan cycles off? This would be helpful. If the burners stay on because the fan is only off for a short time, the high Limit switch is good, because when the burners are on, and the fan comes on and shuts off and stays off, the unit will open the contacts on the high limit and shut burners off for safety. I would say that the combination fan control is sticking or failing causing your fan to short cycle. Only, if this is an older furnace though. If it is a newer one with the electronic pilot ignitor, the main control board is you're problem and will need R & Ring. Please get back to me and give me the information I have mentioned, as name, model #, serial #, and age or if it is eletronic pilot or a standing pilot(on all the time) this will help to solve this. Also, what stat you have.Try the things I mentioned, but please get back to me so we can solve you're problem. Thank you, and Sincerely,

Should the burners go off and on

yes this is totsly normal
they are really not burners, they are elements, and you dont really cook from the heat of the burner, on this design, you actually cook from the heat of the glass, so as the glass cools through convection, the element will cycle, on and off to ensure the glass maintains a temp +- 25 degrees to the set temp

hope this helps

The burners are too hot. Even when set to 'lo' setting food over cooks or water boils. Can the burners be calibrated to provide an actual 'lo' setting. Food cooked on 'lo' sticks to pan and liquids...

Your range uses what is commonly refered to as infinite heat switches. Without getting into too much of the mechanics of how they opperate, basically they cycle the burner on (at full power) for a very short time at warm or lower settings,(and longer off periods), at medium type settings, on / off might be more like 50 /50, and at high, they are on 100% of the time. There is no calibration for these. Sometimes, the electrical contacts inside arch and make poor contact, or weld themselves together, giving high heat at all settings. The only way to fix this problem is to replace the individual switches, which are the part the the knobs push onto.

Constantly burning food, heating element in lower oven glowin red

You have a bad thermostat if the element never cycles off.

Cooktop burner will be dim and red automatically

when you set a cook top burner to high then it should stay on until the "thermal" limit shuts it off. then the burner will stop glowing. if you dont put a burner on the top, the burner sensor will shut of on the thermal safety.
it is normal but what you need to check is if you pans are flat on the bottom. a bow inwards or outwards will cause the thermal to shut the burner off. the pan needs to "draw" the heat out of the top and allow the burner to operate properly.
most of the time the pans a warped causing the burner to cycle on the limit and then not heat as well as it could with a "flat pan"

Ge true temp stove top burner wont stay on

dont know how old unit is or how familiar you arewiththe unit, but the burner will need to heat up and cycle off/on. no matter how high or low you set the setting it will heat to a specific temp and cycle off, if hte burner remained RED all the time the glass would crak( so dont go by appearnce of burner, the glass should dictate the temp
