Question about Troy-Bilt Garden

Open Question

I have an old troy-bilt tiller (gardenway?). Don't know the model number. I think the s/n is 229605 I found this stamped on a pad at the top of the transmission on the right side. The engine is a Tecumseh 105080D-HH60. Where can I find parts? Can I still get an owners manual?

Have a really old Troy Bilt rear tine tiller, serial number is gone, I did find TH 1003 stamped on the housing. It has a Hohler 7 HP engine. I'm trying to locate the proper belt, and possibly an...

Without the exact model you will be hard pressed to get either. For the belt, you can wrap a rope around the pulleys and measure the circumference. That will tell you the belt size in inches. You then measure the width and you will have that information to give to a parts supplier. There are enough fans of the Troy Bilt tillers out there so you may still get lucky and find someone that knows what the model is from your description. Hope this helps to at least make the tiller usable. Good luck.

I have an old troy bilt pony rotertiller no serial tag

The decals r a good indication, they probably didn't have any more made than they needed. The only thing i can think of is, sometimes on the back side of the flywheel, (if u ever have it off) r some stamped numbers. One set of numbers is the month, and one set is the year it was made. Now that's the flywheel, but the engine should be the same year.

I have a troybilt pony tiller made on 1/22/79. On the transmission there is this number P35944...at least it looks like a P, not sure on that digit. Farther back on transmission near the tines, there is...

One is a serial number and the other is a part number ... This tiller was built in Troy, New York by Gardenway Manufacturing. Unfortunately, that family owned company is out of business. Whether there is still manufacturing in Troy New York, I am not sure but it is not the same company today as it was in 1979.

The assets, including the name, were purchased (and some sold) by several manufacturers, notably, MTD. The Troy products sold today are similar to the Troy products of the Gardenway Manufacturing. In my experience, there is no better customer service than that I received from GardenWay. The 6.5 was a big Pony ... I purchased a Horse about the same time and it is a 6.0 hp Techumsa. I am on my second engine and I wouldn't take twice the $ for it.

This tiller probably cost in the vicinity of $800.00 delivered.

There is a company in Canada that has specs on most Troy Models ... and access to lots of Troy parts, though thre are lots of other places that sell parts and have diagrams as well.

At one point Briggs was making 'flails' for the Troy Chipper Shredder ...

I hope this helps you with your tiller ... It is a teriffic machine.

That's the engine number. It's a 6Hp Tecumseh. Go on ebay and buy the Troy Bilt parts manuals on CD for Horse Roto Tillers (if that's what it's on). I paid $8. Definitely worth it.

What year Troy Built Horse Tiller

The serial number is stamped on the upper right hand side of the gear housing. It is on a flat spot just above the wheel shaft. If it is a newer model it will be on a white sticker on top of the gear housing plate. If it has the T handle it is probably an older 1980's model. If you find the six digit number I can give you the year it was made.

Where do i find serial numbers on troy bilt horse tillers

On the old Gardenways Horse the serial number is stamped into the top of a little flange on the side of the transmission just to the right (viewed from behind) of where the handles attach. It may be covered in gunk so a douse of mineral spirits and a little scraping will reveal it.

You can download the manual and parts list from the Troybuilt site. Enter "HORSE" for the model and the serial number.
