REMOVE THE FILTER AND THE 2 SCREWS UNDER THE FILTER LID THEN PRY THE TOP OPENED AT THE FRONT EDGES BETWEEN THE TOP AND FRONT PANEL THEN OPEN AND LOOK AT THE TOP OF YOUR HEAT ELEMENT HOUSING REMOVE THE 5/16 HEX HEAD AND PUSH IT TOWARDS THE REAR TO DISENGAGE IT FROM THE BACK OF THE REAR BULKHEAD THEN LIFT UP AND OUT IT COMES. cHECK YOUR THERMAL FUSE FOR CONTINUITY. GO TO www.repairclinic.com SCROLL ALL THE WAY DOWN AND CLICK THE RED 100 AND CHECK THESE PARTS AS WELL. 2986, 2821, AND 2893. THE ELEMENT IS 3367. 2986 NEEDS TO BE CHECKED FOR CONTINUITY.

Dryer not getting hot enough to dry clothes

First check the power coming in, you need 240 volts. 120 to neutral on both sides and 240 across both. If you are not comfortable with a VOM volt ohm meter call somebody who is.

Be aware when every you remove a panel you will be exposed to sharp surfaces. Unplug first and be careful!

Whirlpool dryers have a thermal fuse inside the back of the dryer, if this is open the dryer will not heat. You will need to check this with a meter it should be closed. A quick and dirty way to check it, remove it and wire it in a circuit with like a flashlite or radio. the flashlite or radio should work, this is a dirty way to check fuses if you dont have a meter.

While you have the dryer open, vacuum it out and clean the venting.

I can't remove the heating element case.

HI, you need to rea=move the back panel to locate the element. It will be on the right side (looking at the back) in a housing. Check continuity on the element terminals. If it checks out ok, check all thermostats.
If I can assist you further, please let me know. I can also get you parts off my web site www.whirlpoolpartssurplus.com

Whirlpool mod # WGD5300SQ0 gas dryer gets hot but does not stay hot Is it a thermostat or radiant sensor or something else

by all means when dealing with natural gas consult only trained professionals....as natural gas does not have an odor..the odor that you smell is an actually additive that has been place for just this reason.

Dryer does not glow or lite up but it runs

I just diagnosed the same problem with my estate model by wirlpool. It is most likely the thermal fuse located in the back (behind the panel) It is a $12.00 part. My neighbor fixed his father's unit with same issue 2 weeks ago.

theres a thermal fuse located on back panel usually white maybe 2 inches tall 1/2 wide 2 blue wires leading to it. ck for continuity, if none replace that(most common problem)... if good you can go back to the ignitor and unplug the white connector it plugs into. place your meter leads into the connector and turn on dryer, you should get 110v. if you do you have a bad ignitor, if not a thermo's gone bad (check the thermal fuse first though.
