Question about Dell E173FP 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

15" LCD computer monitor

Suddenly my monitor started flickering, going brighter then dimmer. It's irritating as hell as you might imagine. I've tried the built in help and support and I have attempted to find a driver update, all without success. Do I need a new monitor? Help!!! Thanks in advance, BarbaraJo

Re: 15" LCD computer monitor

Hi. If you can try another monitor on your system. Or try your monitor on another computer. If you are able to do any of these tests & it is definately your monitor that is at fault chances are the inverter is breaking down. The inverter sends ht voltage to the tubes that iluminate your monitor. The inverter is relatively easy to replace but you will need to remove it get all the numbers off of it in order to purchase a new one. They can be purchased from CHS which is A UK spare parts supplier chs stands for charles hyde & sons type it in to google to find them. Let me know how you get on.

Turns on but very dim

This is a 15 inch LCD. and the inverters of these units go south often.
If the unit does not flicker and you do not have a lose of power, it will be the inverter.

Starts up looking good then in 3 minutes, all hell...

Go to the ViewSonic site and read through their knowledge base on your monitor.

Then once you familiarize yourself with electronics safety by reading through a basics manual once or five times, and once you've got it, open up the monitor cold and/or hot, and find out where they spilled Coca-cola down the back or whatever might be suggested by the ViewSonic knowledge base.  Lather, rinse, repeat; when the monitor acts right, then stop.
