Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I just purchased a GE wireless keyboard and mouse. The keyboard works fine but the mouse will not move on any surface. It works if you use it on a mouse pad or a towel etc. I have always used wireless and this is the first time it will not work on any surface. The ones I have had in the past worked on my wood computer desk. It will not with this one. I am ready to return it.

I know that all wireless devices need a battery. I am just using a mouse pad. Its not that big a deal to me one way or the other. Thanks for responding.

First of all, even wireless laser or optical mice tend to work much better with a slight texture/pattern under it so it has a way of locating/measuring/sensing your movements, since they communicate to the pc upon visual movement, to by force, motion, etc....

Try putting a peice of paper that's full of text under it. Also Make sure the Mouse has a battery in it....I'm only mentioning this since some folks don't realize that ALL wireless devices for PCs require a battery.

I would actually recommend switching brands from GE to LOGITECH. Logitech is better in my opinion.

Yes, this is a result of the wireless mouse. If that mouse moves a hair, it could cause your computer to wake up. I recommend you placing the mouse in a more sturdy location between uses, or simply turn off the transmitter/receiver that controls the wireless keyboard/mouse. Sometimes a better mouse pad is all you need to reduce glare or to provide a surface with more friction to better prevent small bumps from moving the mouse round.

I've got one of those. We had problems with it chewing batteries up. You might try another mouse on that computer, and try that mouse on another computer.

GE wireless optical mini mouse

Not sure if it could be a mouse issue or a surface issue. Some things to keep in mind: 1. Most mice have a "channel" buttof on the bottom used to pair it with the wireless base. Try pressing this a few times to see if you get the desired effect. 2. Surface has a lot to do with quality of the mouse tracking beacon. I suggest dropping $10 on a mousepad. I have a mouse pad with a wrist rest I paid $15 bucks for and even though the mouse doesn't move as fast as on the desk, simple changes in the Control Panel for mouse tracking solved this issue. 3. I am not one to harp on a particular mouse manufacturer but I have had a great deal of good experiences with Logitechs line of mice and keyboards. Hope this helps. D.
