Question about Acer Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Windows Vista Home Basic

I have a system that I'm trying to get into, but I'm not able to change the username at the login. It doesn't give me the option to change the user. The system is currently locked with an old user and I want to log in with the administrator, but the option is not there. Any clues?

The administrator user is locked by default with Windows Vista. You can unlock it from the command prompt if you have access to an account with administrative privileges (which I'm assuming you son't have access to).

There are a number of bootable CDs you can download that will allow you to remove a password or unlock the administrative user, but some of them can be slightly complicated processes. My preference is the Ubuntu Live CD. If you want more detail on the discs let me know.

Forgotten log in password

Which system do you use?

On windows xp, try this:
Boot computer and press Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice when you See Windows welcome screen / login screen. It'll show classic login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in username field and leave password field blank, press Enter and you should be able to login Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".

If that doesn't or you use windows 7 or vista, try this:
1. Enter a computer that can link to Internet. Download Windows Password Recovery Tool 3.0 and install the software on that computer.
2. Run the software and create windows password reset disk by follow the instructions.
3. Eject the created CD/DVD and insert it into the locked computer.
4. Reboot the locked computer (it's necessary for you to change your locked computer's BIOS setting to make it boot from CD drive) and then follow the instructions to reset your password.
5. Now login Windows and set a new password.

HOW CAN I RECOVER MY MICROSOFT WINDOWS VISTA HOME BASIC EDITION OPERATING SYSTEM?

If you purchased a computer with an installation of Microsoft Vista you would normally have a recovery partition. On restart continually press F8 to go to the advanced boot options menu and choose Repair your computer. If it would ask for language preference choose it. Then if it would ask for administrative access go ahead and login. On the next menu choose the image restore for your system. If you have a dell it would be Dell Factory Image Restore. It would depend on the brand.

If you installed vista separately. You would need to boot up your Vista Home Basic Disc. Place the disc in the drive and restart. It would normally load your disc if it is set as primary boot. If it did not enter the BIOS then change your boot sequence to start with the Optical Drive first or you could press the key for boot selection. some would press F10 or F11 for that, but you can find it when you boot up your computer. It would be stated on the starting sequence or the bios splash. Press that key and choose your Optical drive/CD/DVD drive. Then follow the instructions on reinstalling your Vista Home Basic.

There is no single product key for vista home basic, each copy of it has a different one. If you want to find out yours, then look on the bottom of your laptop, or if it is a desktop pc, the side. Another way to find it is to get a program called "magical jelly bean" It's web site is http://magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/
hope I helped,
