Question about Mitsubishi WD-65731 65" HDTV

1 Answer

Volume turns on and no picture

I have had the bulb changed 3 times in 2-1/2 years of ownership. I think it just went out again a couple of minutes ago. The volume turns on with no picture then the tv turns off after about 3 minutes. Is there any recall or do we throw the tv away?

Hello:

Depending upon your model, Mitsubishi did have a factory recall on some of their DLP TVs with a lamp cooling related issue (a faulty thermal sensor). This repair is covered by Mitsubishi if your model is one of those with the known issue.

Please feel free to contact us at www.DLPLampSource.com or by telephone at 866-764-5822 and we would be happy to assist with more information.

Regards

Dan

Try couple of things .hold the volume button on the tv and at same time press the menu button rapidly 3 times.if this does not get into the correct screen try holding the volume button on tv and press the zero(0) button 3 times rapidly and another is to hold volume button on tv and press zer(0) button on remonte rapidly 3 times each o fthese methods these should get you into various set up screens but be careful and take notes if you change settings .you may have to unplug or turn power off at mains and power up again to see changes

sounds like the projection bulb went bad. change the bulb and it should work. sometimes they make a high pitch noise when they are trying to turn on. the bulbs seem to last about 2 years for me.

yes replace the lamp, sony units have certain specs that the lamp must meet to operate correctly. If the Lamp you purchased is made by LTI, these lamps do not last long as they are poorly manufactured. Look at the bulb and see who is the maker if its says LTI then replace with a Phillips brand that meets spec's for sony.

I have a 60in Sony KDS-60A2020 LCD rear projection television that is only 2 years old. The picture keeps going out intermittently for about a minute, comes back on, then goes out again. The sounds remains...

Hi:
Yes replace the blub with a sony original lamp. The lamps sold as replacements such as LTI these lamps are not good for use as they don't fully meet the specs for sony televisions. Look at the lamp manufacture on the bulb itself if you see LTI as the manufacture then replace the lamp with a Phillips brand lamp.

TV powering on and off every few minutes

Yes, this is common in Sony's when the lamp begins to fail. You may even see a small sulfar looking burn on the lens of the lamp (that is what causes the pic to go dimmer). Remember not to touch the lens when replacing new lamp.

If picture quality is poor, be sure you aligned the bulb in the correct manner and be sure the cover for the bulb is not loose. Also, you might want to re check you picture setting as it might have gotten reset when you pulled the plug (I hope you pulled the plug when replacing the bulb).
Heres another solution (maybe temporary) to the problem of no picture and no sound for 30 seconds. I had my tv's power saving setting on "standard" before. After I switched it to "reduced", the problem was fixed. It has been almost two weeks without the problem. I think its a good fix until the new bulb comes in the mail.

No picture, hear sound, television will shut off after a few seconds.

Lamp life is only a few thousand hours. Hopefully its only the lamp that made to noise. Don't turn on again until lamp is replaced.

the problem may be due to dry soldering in the power supply stage if it was with the lamp there would be red or green light showing the presence of the power to the tv after making it own some of the components get hot and it will make the the soldering point conectionless and after some time the heat sink get cooled and the soldering point gets connected and u will see the picture again it is a simple problem if u have a soldering iron u make it hot and re solder all the components in the first part of the circuit board and the problem if rectified

you might wanna look into the "flicker issue" with your set...If you've had it for a while a could be that it's just worsened over time and developed into a voltage leak. I have the same set and it went undetected for a couple of years due to poor quality cable signal..once I went to a clear signal (ie. directv) the issue was very noticeable, but by that time it had progressed. Eventually one of your guns will fail and the set will stop working all together (mine did just under 4yrs from purchase) and unless you have Sears warranty that WILL try to stick it to you. TRUST ME!!! Good luck.
