Question about Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500 GB SATA Hard Drive

External Hard Drive Beeps and Doesn't Connect

It's a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10, 500GB.
It fell down about 2ft and no longer connects to my laptop. It still gets power; the light comes on, but it just beeps out this strange chirpy noise.
I think the disk can't spin or something; is there a way to make it spin?
I've got a lot of data on the thing, enough for it to be valuable in the region of a several hundred pounds, but not the thousand eight hundred that seagate were asking for for them to retrieve my data.
Hell, even if there's a short term '3 hour' fix, that would be perfect for me to just copy everything off it onto another drive.

Thanks!

By no longer connecting, I mean the bios can't detect it; cmd, f: etc brings up nothing (that is the name of that particular port, but I tried all the others anyway)
To check, I tried to connect it to another PC, but nothing then as well.

I'm thinking of taking it apart and replacing some components to see if it will run, even for a few hours, do you think that will work?

You may consider this options but if you have no more options. This treat your hard drive as to be trash already.

Some do it this way, they swap the board of the harddrive with a good board with the same make, model, capacity, and board design, also its revision.

Hoping they can run it, only if the harddrive board that gets defective. But still sometimes will get some issue for it.

Seagate barracuda 7200.9 connect to USB

You will need an external Hard drive adapter case.
This will probably come with driver disk.
If already and external drive it may have internal firmware which talks directly to the PC.
Just install drivers, if any, and plug unit in.
Follow screen prompts.

You do not need a driver, I suspect the Seagate hard drive may be faulty.
Try conncting your hard drive as a Slave drive in your computer, if the BIOS does not detect the hard drive then the hard drive is faulty.

I have the same problem like yours right now. The on-board circuit of my Seagate Barracuda burned and I'm planning to buy new Seagate Barracuda with the same specifications, same model.. I will try to disassemble the circuit of the new one and connect it to the old hard drive to take a chance if it will work and retrieve my files. If it doesnt work, at least I try and I still have a new hard dist to store my new files.. If you want to do the same, you must be careful in handling the circuit board. It is very sensitive and can be damaged with just touching the components.. I recommend you to discharge static electricity of your hands by touching anything that is made of steel.. The steel will discharge static electricity, but still, to make sure you wont damage the circuit, just touch the circuit board on its sides.. Never touch any components, it will damage your circuit board.

Assuming the drive itself is still ok (it sounds like it would be), then yes, you can put the drive into another case or directly into the motherboard if you know how to do that.

Seagate barracuda external 500 gb hard drive usb not seen any longer, cables and power okay , tried on three computers

Verify what Drives have been detected by your Operating System by using Windows: Control Panel -> Admistrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management -> Your Hard disk(s) will be displayed with all existing partitions and any assigned drive letters.
Your external (or internal) drive must be recognized as having formatted partitions that have a drive letter assigned to each required partition.
Hope it helps: let me know how you go!

Also any other ways that might help would be great to know, heres what i'm talking about! "Fixing The Drive NOTE: Commands for you to type are in red boldface. Pay attention to upper & lower case - it is important. Turn on power to the RS232-to-TTL adapter and the hard drive. After a few seconds, Press CTRL+z. You should then see a prompt like this: F3 T> If not, swap TX & RX wires. Access Level 2 (type /2): F3 T>/2 (enter) F3 2> Then spin down the (disconnected) motor: F3 2>Z (enter) Spin Down Complete Elapsed Time 0.147 msecs F3 2> Very carefully, remove the cardstock that you placed between the PCB and the drive head contacts. Carefully replace and tighten the 3 loose screws. I suggest using a small piece of masking tape to help you hold the screws while you put them back in place.
