Re: SmartAX MT882 Firmware Problem

Hi there!

I'll try and help you out with this but I need to ask you these:

1. Is the firmware of the MT880 compatible with the MT882? Have you checked their website for the correct firmware for the MT882?
2. Do you know how to access the routers web ui? If Yes, then try to go to Tools > Firmware Upgrade

Hope this helps!

Links up as a rooter but it will not connect to internet the modem is a talktalk smartAX mt882 adsl modem and the rooter is a linksys wrt54gs-uk im in the uk i can see and link up to the network

Try this: 1- Logon to the router @ Default username = blank (none). Default password = "admin" (no quotes). Then: 2- On the main opening page, reset the IP address from to Check (adjust) your timezone - etc. Then: 3- Click save at the bottom. At this point it will tell you settings successfully changed and it may try to return you to the page. But it won't be able to because you changed the IP address. Please close the browser and reopen and repeat logon as above using If you can log in you have sucessfully changed the routers IP address. Certain modems will not function with the default IP address that comes with the router and must be changed. My setup is like this and I must do what is described above for my wrt54gs to function properly. Please use Internet Explorer browser if other browses do not work. Good luck.

Trying to turn a Linksys WRT54GS into a hub

  1. If you want to set the router to work only as a switch with wireless access point, you may need to get into its setup page and adjust some settings.
  2. Using a computer that is wired directly to one of the router's Ethernet ports, launch IE and type It is the default IP address of the router. Then it will open a window, asking for a username and password. By default, there is no username and the password is admin.
  3. Once you're in the router's User Interface, look for a sub tab called "Advanced Routing" under the main tab SETUP. Then set router mode to "Router" instead of Gateway. In some router's, the choice there is NAT enable or disable. If it is the one showing there instead of Router mode, then set NAT to disable. Click Save settings which is located at the bottom portion of the screen.
  4. Then click on "Basic Setup" and then disable DHCP server. Save the settings then.
  5. Then your modem now will be connected to one of the 4 Ethernet ports of the router.
Hope this helps!

Hello, Good question..Phone line to DSL modem, Ethernet cable to WAN port on Router. If connecting a PC wired to Router, connect Ethernet cable from 1 of 4 LAN ports on Back of router to ethernet port on PC. This would be Physical connection...
It's always smart to set a restore point in case something goes wrong during installation of any program. For wireless connection from laptop or PC: install router software on computer. Reboot computer. In browser address bar enter This brings up a window for user name and password. Enter "admin" for both. This allows you to change many settings including Changing SSID(Router Name), User name and password. Enabling WEP or WPA security. Hope this Helps, Good Luck..!!
