Question about Samsung SyncMaster 710N 17" LCD Monitor
When the monitor is turned on, grey lines appear on the screen and obscure the very faint screen image behind it. The grey lines vary in shade and are both horizontal and vertical, varying in width from 5" to 1". Within a minut of the monitor turning on the screen image slowly fades to black. I first noticed this problem when I returned to my desk at home after being away for 1-2 hours. The monitor is typically on except when I turn it off at night. The menu buttons at the base of the monitor no longer function, or if they do, the problem with the display prevents viewing. Neither the power cable or video cable have been changed or jostled. Does this problem sound familiar, and do you know any solutions. My fear is the monitor is toasted or in need of an expensive repair. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Does this unit have an external power supply (wall wart)? If so, substitute a known good one of similar specs. If the original is 12 Volts/1.2 Amps, find a 12-15 Volt/1.2 or greater Amp. DO NOT go over the voltage more than about 15-20%. DO NOT go under the current rating less than 90% for just long enough to see if it works. Be sure the connector fits PERFECTLY!!! Some will appear to fit but will be loose. Do not under any conditions replace a DC supply with an AC one or vice-versa.
