Question about Whirlpool LER5636P Electric Dryer

1 Answer

On my 4 year old Kenmore the ignitor glows and light the flame for a few seconds, then goes out. I replaced the gas valve coils, still does the same thing.Cleaned lint screen, checked white fuse and it has continuity, has black small sensor next to it, what kind of ohm value should it have? does not show continuity.Tech told me to take wires off black box on burner tube and connect them together then start unit. when I do that the igniter glows but does not turn on gas. Last but not least tested tempsensor on top of burner and it has zero resistance.

The flame sensor is giving a no flame reading. sometimes i take a small piece of sand paper and clean the entire sensor. this should fix the problem.

I have a GE gas dryer DBVH512GF1WW. The heat is inconsistent. I noticed the ignitor glowing and then a flame shortly after on the initial time I turned the dryer on. Then after the flame going out after...

sounds like bad gas coils located on top of the gas valve, when the coils start to fail the ignitor will glow, the coils let the gas in until the coils heat up and then ignitor glows but no gas.when the coils cool down they might work again for a short time until they heat up and fail again.if the flame lights and goes out after like 30 seconds and goes out and keeps doing this you have a block either in the dryer or the vent line but it sounds like you have bad gas coils.unplug the dryer, get at the valve, pull off the wires going to the coils and check them with a meter, one should be open, just remove the two phillips screws pull off the cover and slide the coils up off of the posts, unplug them and put the new coils on,you'll see like a little piece of plastic on the top of the coils, this fits intoo the cover so they line up correctly and holds them in place, also on the larger coil there's a spacer on the post,if you don't see it look inside the old coil, poke out the spacer and slide it onto the post and then install the coil.

I have a 7yo Kenmore Elite gas dryer w/no heat. I tested all the possible culprits with my ohmmeter. I found the ignitor was not glowing so I replaced it. Now it glows but I still have no heat

The glowing if the ignitor indicates that the circuitry is good but the flame/radiant sensor is bad and/or one or both of the gas valve solenoid coils are not working. The flame/radiant sensor bypasses one the solenoid coils then when power is applied to the ignition circuit, the first coil opens the first valve, the ignitor glows and the flame/radiant sensor gets heated. It's contacts then opens when heated enough to unbypass the second coil and allow the gas to flow and be ignited.

Make sure the flame/radiant sensor is properly in place and aligned with the ignitor to allow proper heat sensing. You may check the continuity between the sensor's contact terminals as the ignitor glows. At first, the terminals should read close (zero resistance) and then open (infinite resistance) after about 30 seconds or so. If this is not the case, the sensor is not working and must be replaced.

The solenoid coils, one with 2 prongs and the other has 3, sitting on top of the gas valves must be both replaced if the flame/radiant sensor turns out good. But before doing so, make sure to run a test with the dryer completely assembled because sometimes the gas do not ignite when the dryer's cabinet is open. This is to prevent unnecessary replacement of the coils.

Feel free to update us about the result and if you need further advice.

Kenmore series 500 gas dryer not heating up. model # 77542600 Other than the ignitor what could be the problem?

Check the coils on gas valve. If igniter glows bright & no CLICK sound heard after a few seconds of igniter glowing, coils are bad, or flame sensor if so equiped

I have a kenmore gas dryer is it good if on # 1 coil on #1and 2 i get1328 ohms 1and3 i get 528 on #2 coil i get 1220 ohms

On the gas valve are one or two coils (solenoids) used to open and close the valve to control the flow of gas. If a coil fails, gas will not flow and the dryer will have no heat.

The easiest way to diagnose a problem in the burner assembly is to observe the burner operation. Remove the small access panel at the bottom, front of the dryer, select a high temperature setting and start the appliance. Watch the burner assembly, shortly after starting the dryer the ignitor should begin to glow. Next you should hear the click of the gas valve coil and a flame should ignite. The flame should be mostly blue and it should remain on for a minute or more.

If the ignitor glows for several seconds (up to 15 seconds) and then goes out, the problem is probably the coils (solenoids). If the ignitor glows and stays on, then the problem is usually the flame sensor. If it ignites and then quickly goes out, it is most likely a problem with inadequate air flow.Test the coil for resistance using a multimeter. Set the multimeter to the ohms setting X10. Place a probe on each terminal. The multimeter should change from a reading of infinity to roughly 1300 ohms (+/- 150 ohms) when the probes touch the terminals. If the reading is infinity or substantially different from 1300 ohms, the solenoid should be replaced.

Kenmore Gas Dryer ignites then stops heating after ten minutes.

If the glow bar comes back on and the gas does not light, replace the gas valve coils. If the ignitor does not come back on,replace the flame sensor.

Replace the gas valve coils if the ignitor glows but does not light. Replace the flame sensor if the ignitor does not glow.

On my 4 year old Kenmore elite dryer the ignitor glows and

HI, Check your 4" vent to the outside and make sure it is clean and that it has no kinks.
Any restriction to the outside will cause the dryer to short cycle. All thermostats must have continuity. With the dryer running, remove the lint screen and check to see if there is good air flow by putting your hand in where the filter goes (it is safe). You should feel air rushing past your hand if the vent is clear.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Kenmore no flame

Is this the scenario? It lights for a few cycles or maybe not at all. The ignitor glows and goes out but no flame. Comes back on then does the same thing. If so it could be failing coils (those two black cylinders on top of the gas valve assembly). There's a kit that includes both and it's a fairly simple job.
