there is a memory power lead (usually yellow) that must be hooked up to constant power. find a circuit in the car that doesn't cut off with the switch and hook the memory power lead to that. if the memory lead is properly attached, and has power even with the switch off, then the problem is internal to the radio and will have to be repaired. be aware, there is usually a fuse in the power lead to the memory, check the fuse also.

Display malfunctions/no working functions

Remote turn on lead shorted to audio intterupt lead? I would just hook up power and ground to the 9833 and see if problem goes away. If not is must be internal to the 9833. If problem goes away i would double check wiring. Good luck that is a sweet cd player.

No Sound

99 times out of 100 the audio is (a.k.a. "chip" ) is defective.

I would pull the radio apart, get the number off of the ic(it should be a big 10 or more pin part.. get the number off of it..

go to,, check ebay, or see if alpine will sell you one directly..

most common cause if the failure it a shorter speaker or shorted speaker wiring, so check all that over very well before you reinstall your deck!!!!

Cd plays, but no sound

Disconnect the blue wire from the back of the radio and connect the blue/white wire in its place. This should fix your problem.

Stays on even if HU (CDA-9833) is off

It is possible that the SIR unit stays powered as long as the red wire is powered, since it is normally connected to a switched source. To test this, disconnect the red wire or move it to a switched source (you could even add a switch on the wire and flip it manually). If the battery stays healthy after that, then the red wire being constantly powered is the problem. Otherwise, it is possible there is a problem with the Ai-NET cable connected to the SIR unit.

CDA - 9833 AI-Net issue

If the radio was still plugged in when you cut it (such a BAAAADDD idea....) it likely shorted the data pins to the power pins which fried the AI net processor. There is no fix for that. It's toast.
