Question about HP Pavilion 520c PC Desktop

Installed a new hard drive

I had a virus and so I removed my hard drive and put in a new one. When I turn on the computer I get no operating system detected. What are the steps to take prior to installing windows xp?
Also, I turned it off and now the screen just shows HP and doesn't go to a dos prompt. And my keyboard doesn't respond since I put in the new hard drive.

Well, since the new hard disk is not formatted, and there is nothing currently on it, you will not get a dos prompt or an operating system detected. What you need to do is insert your Windows XP disk, then reboot the machine. When you see the HP screen, tap the F12 key, which will take you to a boot menu. On the boot menu, choose your CD drive, then the computer will boot from the windows disk. From there, just format your disk, and install Windows.

How do you take a hard drive out of a computer?

turn the computer off at the wall and disconnect the cable
open up the cabinet
pull the connections off the hard drive
remove the screws holding the hard drive in place and remove
if it is an old disc type hard drive and it is faulty, replace it with a solid state hard drive ( no moving parts)
because the hard drive contains the operating system, the fitment of a new hard drive will require you to get into the bios boot tab and change first boot from hard drive to first boot cd that has an operating system cd installed
to get to the bios immediately after pressing the on button, hold down the delete button until the bios screen appears

Do Lenovo laptops kill non-Lenovo hard drives?

Yes, I had the same ...
To put things right I downloaded Linux Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/download), burnt it to dvd and used the non-working hard drive as the only master drive, and installed Ubuntu as the operating system. Then I erased Ubuntu by installing Windows XP.

As you already have Windows working on your computer, why not create a 'virtualbox' and install the tech preview inside your current operating system? Search for for Oracle virtual box for Windows hosts (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/virtualbox/downloads/index.html), download it and also download the guest box additions.

That just means if you have say, Windows 7 as your operating system, you create a virtualbox and install another operating system inside that virtualbox. You can run both operating systems at the same time.

If you don't fancy the idea of a virtualbox, you can use the inbuilt Windows disk partitioner to create another drive on your hard drive and install the tech preview there. Your computer will be 'dual boot' ... at start up you choose which operating system to use.

You can do the same using Linux - but be aware that Linux must go on as the SECOND operating system.

Your first port of call is to format those hard drives and put things right.

Why does my Dell Inspiron 531 keep shutting down?

cpu maybe overheating, check all fans are working, maybe a fault in motherboard. There should also before an error report log on your operating system which might give you a clue. try putting your hard drive into another pc (as a slave drive) and scan it for viruses before putting it back into your pc as the master again.

You'll need to start your computer in "safe-mode". Your other option is to make a bootable usb drive with Unetbootin. You'll need to use a different computer for this. This will enable you to save your files and then reinstall a new operating system (xp, vista or 7).

Does loading windows operating system solve all computer problems

Hello,

yes, it certainly does. Loading windows operating system will wipe away all former files on your computer and new once (files) would be installed, thereby, making your computer be like a new one.

This will also make your system run faster and perform better, because the Hard-drive would be free from load. Also all hidden virus will be wiped away.

Therefore, loading windows operating system, mainly solves software problems.

Good luck.

Windows did not start successfully start uo loop

this happens sometimes due to a virus that gets on the machine. you will need to remove the virus and then start up the computer.

To remove the virus you will need to plug the hard drive into another computer then run a virus scan on that drive.

Or you can reformat the hard drive and put windows back on it. this solution you will lose everything

If your u8 has an operating system installed, yes, you can do that.
Be sure to boot the u8 in Safe Mode to copy your files.

I would also recommend checking the copied files for viruses before you use them.

Computer is infected with viruses

Blue screens as a result of infection mean the virus has corrupted the operating system. You can fix it by doing an operating system repair with your recovery or operating system disc. Depending on the virus, this may only be a temporary fix. If this turns out to be a temporary fix, then the sure way to fix it is to completely wipe the hard drive, completely reformat using NTFS, and reload the operating system, which I would recommend. If you have any problems during or after the reload, then the virus damaged the hard drive and it will need to be replaced.
