Over heated will not run but still heats

Hi I have a whirlpool electric dryer md#LER5636PQ0. It started heating when it was not on. Last load I ran I for got to turn the breaker off. The unit still heats but will not start. How do I fix this? How do I fix the the heating problem once it does start? Thanks

There are 4 things that could potentially be wrong with your dryer if its not heating up..

1. Thermal fuse - unlikely because you said it DOES heat up - just at the wrong time (when its off).

2. Thermostat - again - unlikely because it does heat up - at the wrong time.

3. Timer Motor - Most likely

4. Element - unlikely because it IS heating at the wrong time.

Since your Dryer does heat up, but stays on after the Timer should shut the element off, AND it will not start .... Your timer motor has failed.

Relatively simple to repair yourself. 15 minute job!!

Remove the back of the control panel, remove the 2 screws holding the timer on the unit and replace the timer wire for wire. The timer in place, put the 2 screws in and close up the panel. No more turning off the breaker between uses :D

So easy a CAVEMAN could do it :D

Forgive me, but I want to be clear on this issue.
If the dryer button is completely off, the heater element continues to get hot and you can not get the dryer to tumble no matter what you do? If that is correct, let me know.
Regards,

Whirlpool dryer WED5530SQ0, heats but does not run

So,. basically your drum doesnt turn. SO your getting heat still even though the drum isnt turning. Is this right? Sounds strange??? Do you hear any humming noise when you push the start button? I need to know a little more about the problem because im kinda confused as how you decribed the problem. Iv never seen a dryer heat but the drum not spinning. especially your model dryer. Its electric heat right? because if the drum doesnt spin, maybe your motor is bad. and if your motor is bad, then your heating element wont heat up because the centrifical switch in the motor is not switching to complete the circuit to the heating element. So this is why im confused when you said" Dryer heats when knob turned but when "push button" pressed, drum doesnt run." Because your belt wraps around the motor pully and the motor is what makes the drum turn. Like i said, i never seen this model dryer heat with out the motor operating. So if you can give me some more info, ill do my best to help you out....Thanks!!!!

Dryer runs but will not heat. Replaced fuse and

your cycling thermostat needs changed too. the thermal fuse is your last safety measure that goes, which means your cycling thermostat is not shutting down the heat element once it detects the right temp hot air in the blower housing so it let the heat element glow until either the high-limit sensor shuts the heat down or the thermal fuse blows. Change the cycling thermostat and good luck

Whirlpool electric dryer ran all night and won't heat

Yes it will heat. The two are normally not dependent on the other. The element could be bad. Check the breaker first, then the connections in the back, then the element. The timer could be bad itself allowing it to run all night. This could be a blessing in disguise as the clothes would have been damanged possibly from all the excess heat.
