Get a can of "brake parts cleaner" or something like that (brake parts cleaner can damage plastic) and clean the fuel cap.......remove all petrol gum from the cap.....see what happens.,.,...Tell me I want to know....good luck

Saw starts runs good for a while then quits

Try this out. I have the same issue. When its acts like it wants to quit, crack open the fuel cap. The cap has a small breather in it and if that gets clogged it will starve fuel.

. Have a 350 Husqvarna chainsaw which idles

This sounds like fuel starvation, replace the fuel filter in the fuel tank, if this does not help, when it starts to die just slacken off the fuel filler cap, if it picks up and runs normaly then it is a tank braeather issue, the breather is on the top right hand corner of the fuel tank, replace it.

I have had to change a few fuel tank breathers on the 455 and 460 saws, when it starts to die try to slacken off the fuel filler cap, if it picks up again it is a brather issue, the breather is under the starter cover at the top right hand corner.

My 455 rancher bogs down when i give it gas it's not even under a load new plug air filter, fuel filter, made carb adjustments like manual said running 93 octane gas.it,s still bogging

Make sure the chain break is releasing all the way. When the saw is not running release the chain break and make sure you can move the chain back and forth by hand. If you can there is a small fuel filter in the gas tank that should be replaced. Make sure the fuel lines are not spongy because they could collasp when the engine is running starving the carburetor for fuel.

Husky 55 rancher - I rebuilt this saw but now it won't start. Seems like not getting enough gas. What should I check for?

Check for plugged fuel filter and muffler. Check the fuel lines for decay or damage. Did you service the carburetor? Make sure the lower chamber diaphragm is not hard or cracked. Did you change the two jet settings? Put some fuel mix into the plug hole and pull it through--you should get a pop or two. If ok, then concentrate on the fuel problem. If no spark at the plug, check the ignition module gap to the flywheel magnets using a thin business card for a gauge. Hope this helps!

I have a husky 455 rancher.never had a problem till today, worked fine this morning, now it iwll start but as soon as i put it under load it dies, cannot even rev the engine, it idles ok, but once i open...

When this has happened to me, it turned out to be a hole or crack in the fuel line. At the higher revs, more fuel is needed. The added "suction" for the higher demand pulls air into the line and the unit does not have enough fuel to run. Check for that first and also the fuel filter inside the tank. The filter might be clogged as well.

Keep us posted,
Dan

55 rancher starts in choke mode, when taken off choke, it dies.

It sounds as though it is lean. Operating it lean may cause failure. This may be caused by many things including but not limited to; leaky intake connections at the engine or carburetor; leaky crankcase seals; cracked fuel delivery lines.
If no air leaks tweaking the carburetor may solve it but be warned; frequent carburetor adjustment can mask a much more serious problem. Try turning the "L" needle CCW (richer a little). This is the best adjustment procedure I have found.
Carburetor Adjustment by Madsens.com
http://www.madsens1.com/saw%20carb%20tune.htm
  • CW is leaner; to lean will destroy the saw. If over tightened closed (CW) the adjustment screw faces are easily marred; marred adjustments are difficult to impossible to set properly.
  • Clean the air filter; adjusting with a dirty filter can cause a run lean condition once cleaned and the saw run.
  • Clean the spark arrestor and muffler; if the saw cannot exhale it cannot inhale.
  • There are 2 wav (sound - idle & full - may not be highlighted) files that I find most helpful, I think you will too.
If you have more questions or need additional help please reply below and I will get back to you. Thank you for using FixYa and Good Luck. HTH

Husqvarna ranger 55 chainsaw starts but quits

I too have a rancher 55 and had what sounds like the same problem this week. It would start fine but run for only a few seconds at a time. I took it all apart today and found the problem - a cracked fuel line. In the places where I could see the hose it looked fine, but it wasn't until I removed the fuel tank that I found the crack...right where it exits the tank and then goes thru the housing above it. You don't need to remove the tank to replace the hose but it is easier that way. You do have to push it thru a grommet at the top of the tank. I read some other posts about checking the tank vent to see that it's not plugged up. Mine was ok so I knew it had to be something else. The vent is in a hole about the size of a pencil and is recessed about an inch into the tank on the upper right side. Its partially covered by a plastic cap that's part of the vibration damper, which can be removed to gain access to the vent. The vent tube can then be pushed out from inside the tank with the use of long needle nose pliers, but be gentle. I just loosened it then pushed it out with a finger. I put it all back together with a new hose and its running like new again!

Husqvarana Rancher 55 , how to clean the exhaust port

Cleaning the exhaust: on the saws I've worked with it was just to loosen two bolts at the front and then the exhaust is off the saw. Clean with brake cleaning fluid and blow with compressed air, let it dry before assembling. Don't forget to clean the fine mesh at the output side underneath the lid if present (i.e the spark arrestor).

Make sure to have your carb adjusted properly afterwards.

Chainsaw kills when I press the throttle

My 372 xp did that and when I talked to the repair shop they even showed me. There is a fiberglass gasket that is used to mount the carburetor to the engine. I have no idea on how this happens, but I saw it with my own eyes. The gasket had actually folded over. They replaced it with a rubber one and have had no problem since. The saw was hard to start, would run as long as I didn't try to cut anything and when I did it would open up and then die. I could be giving wrong information, but that sounds exactly like the problem I was having.
