It's so easy. don't let the technology intimadate you. firstly you wanna ******** a static gaurd, you know the little wrist strap you can get em at your local comp store/geek squad or whatever. if it's an older 4150 like mine you should only have to open up the main bay on the bottom of the laptop. make sure you don't touch the gold connectors on the ram. I won't bore you with why just don't it's not good. the main bay on the bottom of the laptop can't miss it. it's big it's probablly metal andhas 3 screws i believe, so make sure you have the pc unplugged, take out the hdd if you wanna be super carefull and make sure to take out the battery cell. open the main bay. Aaahh! <and a light shone down upon his 4150 and it was glorius! it's very exciting huh... i know right. to the left 2 chips.. see em laying flat? very carefully and with only the amount of pressure you need, at the same time pull the ltches away (to the left and right). the chip will pop up at a 45 degree angle, this means the machine is worthless you just broke it ya big dummy! just playin, so pull out your 2 chips. see how theres one laying one way and one laying the opposite? huh so you weren't paying attention well.. it's all good cause there's only one way they can go in. look at the indentation on the bottom. you'll figure it out, pretty easy huh? told yathen simply slide in the new upgrades , which btw are gonna be bad ***! and you can tell all youtr friends you upgraded your own pc. chick dig that ****. at a 45 degree angle till there's resistance you won't be able to see the gold connectors anymore, then just push them gntly down towards the pc motherborad until they lay flat and snap in place. put the main bay door back on. hopefully you didn't loose that one screw. if it's a newer one it'll me a little trickier there is one chip on the bottom and one chip underneath the keyboard, still pretty simple. if that's the case hit me up and i'd be glad to walk you through it. my aim messenger name is rollking81and my name is aries. have fun with your upgrades. and let me know if you have anymore questions about your dell. i just got one to just to play with. this model is really so simple and just designed really well. so easy to work on.

Upgrading ram on laptop, new ram not recognized.

remove the bios battery for a few seconds...and place it back on ...this will make it see the new ram memory modules...if you are sure they are compatible ..they will work .....in fact ..the ddr1 333 512 M is more that compatible with your system and it will work after you remove the battery ...\ my recommendation is to reinstall a clean operation system after you boot up ...and format the C partition too...this have to be done after memory changes to get the max out of them ..

Dell Inspiron 1100 won't read 512 Meg ram.

I had the same problem. I tried several brands of memory unsuccessfully, though they all guaranteed that their products would work with my machine. Finally, my brother (who works in IT) recommended that I go through The Upgrade Place (http://www.theupgradeplace.com/). Great price - less than half of what Dell charges - and the memory worked immediately upon installation.

When I told them that I had a Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop, they said that my PC required proprietary memory (which is true). I paid with a credit card and received the part two days later.

Good luck,

Error message after installing memory ram upgrade.....

The memory appears to be the right kind.

Try installing just one 1GB module, and run the diagnostics (press F12 at boot time and select diagnostics).

Good luck!
