Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-42WE655 42" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Sony Grand Wega KDF_60XBR950 turns itself off

After about an hour my tv screen will go black and the green light will flash red 4 or 5 times and then it will stay red and the tv is totally off. Then after 5 minutes I will be able to turn the tv back on. This cycle will repeat itself over and over.

As technology evolves, Sony continually looks to stand behind the reliability of its televisions. It has come to our attention that a very limited number of televisions manufactured between 2003-2005, after a period of time exhibit a stationary scribble / random line pattern on the screen. Click here to see photos of this symptom.

As part of our commitment to quality, Sony is announcing that for any owner of this model television who paid out-of pocket expenses on or before May 26, 2006 for an estimate or repair service to replace the optical block for this specific issue, Sony will reimburse the customer by mail for his/her parts and labor expenses. To receive reimbursement, please follow completely the directions and terms on the claim form for reimbursement; all claims must be postmarked by May 31, 2007.

In addition, for any customer who later experiences this issue on one of the affected models, Sony will cover the cost of the optical block repair at no charge through September 30, 2007. All other terms of the Sony limited warranty continue to apply.

Is very likely that the lamp will need to be replace soon.
Is some cases those spots might be generated in the inner part of the lamp.

3 blinks is a lamp cover error, did you make sure that the lamp cover is screwed in tight? Also check the lamp cover for deformity, there is a problem with your model where the set over heats and melts the lamp cover a little causing it not to make connection with the lamp cover switch. Let me know if you find either of these problems? If not we can troubleshoot a little further.

Hi,do you hear any strange noises? If you hear clicking or like wanting to turn on it could be the board that powers the lamp it's called the ballast. Here's the instructions to replace it :http://www.fixyourdlp.com/guides/samsung/bp47-00033a.php But if you don't hear any strange noises,tv is around 6000 hrs,2-4 yrs it could be time to replace the lamp. The lamp you need is XL-2200.Have a blessed one!

LOOK IF YOURS IS A SONY I had a sony grand wega 60 inch with the same problem as many tv turns on shuts off the red led FLASHED 4 TIMES. it is a heating issue if one of the three fans inside are not turning when the tv is on even on the first few seconds of turning it on the tv will send a fault code of four flashes . Then the tv shuts off so it wont burn its self up or damage the optical block. all with this same problem of 4 flashes take a flashlite and make sure your fans are turning if not that is your 4 flash problem. I hope this helps someone and if it does i have done my job .

I heard a pop and screen wet black. red lamp

Lamp inside TV is broken and requires replacement. Pop sound was its breaking sound.
Lamp replacement procedure is written in user manual, pretty easy.
Please buy Sony original lamp for TV safety and avoid aftermarket/ cheap lamp.
Let me know if you need to download user manual copy.
Thanks.
