SOURCE: HP All-in-One Can't scan without printing

There is an OCR reader in the programs included with the install disk. This OCR will break down your entire document for editing. If you don't have the disk, it very simple to get all the software from the site.

I want to scan a document with windows 8

You need a program called OCR which is Optical Character Recognition. It may be on the software CD that came with the scanner. If not, then Google "OCR Software" to find a source.

Can I scan a hard copy into Word from an HP PSC 1610? I want to get an editable document, but don't know how. Is this possible or is there a different solution? Thanks.

the cd that came with your printer should have an OCR program included with it. if not, you can download a free trial of a known OCR program here. btw, OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition. it's the only way to scan documents to an editable form.

UNABLE TO MAKE CORRECTIONS TO DOCUMENT

Scanners put a graphic image on your computer that is a "picture" as far as the computer is concerned and therefore, you cannot edit text because it is seen as pixels and not characters. In order to make a scanned document editable, you'll need to use the OCR function in your software (Optical Character Recognition). This is assuming your printer came with OCR software, if not, you'll need to purchase an OCR software package in order to convert images into editable documents. You should be able to find such packages for less than $50.00. Check your documentation (and help files) and look for OCR in the index or search the help files for OCR to see if such software came with your printer software package.

My document won't give me ocr as an option for editable papers..will only scan as an image..

It's not the printer or scanner, it's the scanning software on your computer that enables OCR. Most free programs won't do OCR, You need something like the add-ons available with Adobe Acrobat.

Scanning document

You need some OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. Normally I'd expect to get some supplied with a scanner, but there is various free stuff available to download.
I've not tried any of it, so I won't recommend anything in particular.
Google "OCR software", there is plenty of choice.
Good luck.

OCR

To scan a document for editing purposes, you will need OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. OCR software is not included with your model.
OCR software interprets the scanned document for editing purposes. The Epson driver alone only scans documents as image files and is not capable of this interpretation.
Some reputable OCR software programs on the market are:
Omni Page Pro
ABBYY FineReader Pro
Presto! OCR 4.0
Please understand that Epson has NOT tested our products with these programs. They do not know if these programs are TWAIN compliant and will import directly from our scanners. I recommend that you contact these companies for full compatibility information if you are interested.

Editing a scanned document

Hi, You can try use an OCR program. Sometimes it is included/bundled in the software/drivers/application CD that came with your scanner. You can also google for freeware versions. OCR (Optical Character Recognition) will recognize the text from the scanned document, you can copy/paste and thereafter edit. Hope this be of some help to you. Pls post again how things turn up. Kind regards.
