Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

The light on my garage door opener will not go out. It should go on and off automatically with each opening or closing. I had to unscrew the bulb, because I knew it would burn out anyway with continuous use. Please Help

MANY NEWER DOOR OPENERS ACTIVATE THE LIGHT EACH TIME YOU BREAK THE SAFETY SENSOR BEAM.

THE LIGHT SHOULD STAY ON FOR ABOUT 4.5 MINUTES EACH TIME THE OPENER MOVES OR THE BEAM IS BROKEN.

DOES YOU WALL CONTROL HAVE A LIGHT BUTTON??
IF NOT THE CIRCUIT BOARD STILL HAS THE ABILITY TO WORK WITH ONE THAT DOES. I HAVE SEEN SOME WHERE THE ONLY WAY TO TURN OFF THE LIGHT WAS TO CONNECT A 3 BUTTON WALL STATION & TURN OFF THE LIGHT - THEN RECONNECT THE PUSH BUTTON - OR YOU COULD LEAVE THE 3 BUTTON WALL CONTROL.

YOU MAY ALSO TRY UNPLUGGING THE UNIT FOR ABOUT 5 MIN. THIS RESETS MANY OF THE CIRCUITS ON THE BOARD.
HOPE THIS HELPS

How to open genie 1/2 hp garage opener for light bulb

Set a step ladder under the power head of the garage door opener so you can reach the power cord and the lens cover safely.
Climb the ladder and pull the power cord from the outlet in the ceiling. Press the two lens tabs in to disengage the lens from the power head. The lens tabs are below the opener rail on the upper corners of the lens. Pull the lens cover straight off of the power head.
Unscrew the light bulb from the light socket. Use a new 60 watt bulb to replace the defective bulb. Do not use a short neck bulb. Screw the new bulb into the light socket just as you would a regular lamp socket.
Slide the lens cover back over the front of the power head. Push the lens cover in until the locking tabs engage the top corners of the lens cover.
Plug the Genie garage door opener power cord back into the ceiling electrical outlet.

My light doesnt come on when i break the sensor....and my learn light blinks none stop

Random blinking of the learn light is normal.

To have your lights come on automatically when you walk into an open garage, you must START with the lights ON. If you don't want that feature and you want to turn it off, you must START with the lights OFF.

To turn the feature on, turn the lights on manually with the wall switch, then press and hold the LIGHT button for about 10 seconds until the motor unit light bulbs flash. Now, if the light bulbs are on, manually turn them out and then walk out through the open door. The light bulbs should come on.

To disable this feature, start with the light bulbs OFF and everything else is the same.
