Funny you should ask. I was just reading my Gateway monitor manual this afternoon and it says you can download EzTune software from http://oem.portrait.com/dtune/gwy/enu/upgrade.html. Be sure to to download the right software for your monitor. Apparently there are different versions for different monitors
The theft deterrence system can be disabled temporarily by unplugging the monitor's power cord. Then it will start the counter again. (The default is 60 minutes and is set in the EzTune software.) The software locks the monitor to one computer (the one running the EzTune software). To disable the theft deterrent message, enter EzTune and click on the Extras tab. Then select the Theft Deterrence section and enter the PIN. The PIN can be saved online and then you can request it if forgotten: https://pinreg.portrait.com/index.php?OEM=gwy&PRODUCT=dtune&ULANG=enu .
This monitor includes EzTune™ which is part of GatewayShield's hardware protection solution. This theft deterrent software lets you use a unique PIN code to secure your monitor to your PC. If your monitor is removed from your PC, your monitor will not function. To get started, install the EzTune software from the CD, go to the Plug-ins section and enter your personal identification number. If you decide to move your monitor to another PC, make sure that you install EzTune on the second PC and enter your PIN or disable EzTune within GatewayShield on your original PC before you disconnect your monitor from your PC
The Pivot software is part of the EzTune application. When you installed EzTune, it automatically configured itself with your currently installed drivers. When you update your video drivers, Pivot must reconfigure itself. This is normal operation.
Call Gateway @1-800-gateway. They will tell you to unplug the monitor, plug it back in while holding the power button. A screen will apear giving you a code number. The gateway rep. asks for the code number and then gives you a code number to unlock your screen.
If you ever have this problem but cannot get to the 'extras' button, leave the computer on that (hopefully) already has the eztune software installed, pull the power on the monitor (the cord, not just press the power button) and then plug it back it...it should unlock automatically. It ticks me off that I just got off the phone with gateway tech support and they wouldnt tell me that because my monitor is 'out of warranty'...purchased 4/8/08 and problem today 7/15/09...bums. Anyway, they offered to fix for a fee. I got it fixed.
Whatever you do - DON'T CONTACT GATEWAY. I am in the UK, and the Gateway support number is only available 9 - 5 (funny 'cos I'm at work then and can't access my PC), so I filled in the technical support form - waited 2 days for a reply only to be told they don't support third party software.
I had an online chat with US Gateway support - only to be told the same thing - alternatively, pay them silly amounts of money and phone the US and they will fix the problem.
The solution is to visit Portrait Displays (software developers) website and complete an online form with your problem. (This form prompts as to whether you have already contacted Gateway - so maybe they are monitoring the adequacy of Gateway support. The support from Portrait has been brilliant.
Unplug the cable from your monitor and then hold the power button while you plug the cable back in. When the monitor is fully restored,
release the power button and an anti-theft box will appear, prompting you to press the menu button at the side of your monitor. Press the menu button and you will be given a 3-digit code. Portrait need this code to give you an unlock code. Once you have the unlock code you can remove the anti-theft option.
