SOURCE: Ride on will not start. B&S motor.

Logic would dictate that the starter motor is burning out, drawing far too much current, and that the current overheated the solenoid and toasted it. Now the starter is almost a short circuit and while it spins it has no power. A spendy part to be sure. Perhaps you can find a used one from your friendly neighborhood repair guy.
A compression release is found on old diesel's, but not on gas engines.
Starters can fail from cranking on them for extended periods. They are designed to handle short periods of use, maybe 20 seconds on followed by several minutes (like 15) off. If you have had starting problems and kept cranking to get it going that would explain the fried starter.

SOURCE: Can't get the sparkplugs to

The starting solinoid would not pull in if the safety switches were failed open. So starter would not turn. Did you replace the spark plug or test on another machine to verify spark? If so, when you replaced the coil were you careful to get the proper spacing from the flywheel. I have heard that you can use a business card to act as a feeler guage to set the coil distance from the flywheel. Too large of a distance will ensure that there is no spark.

If really helpful, please rate.

Could be a short in the coil for the sparkplug. Check the magneto- pull the plug wire off the spark plug and hold it close to the frame of the while someone tries to start it. Keep all parts of your body clear of the mower- only hold the sparkplug wire. When the motor turns over, verify spark from the wire to the frame. If no spark, you likely have a bad magneto coil. If you have a good spark, try taking the air filter off and use some engine starter fluid (not much) and then try and start again. If it starts and runs for a second with the starter fluid, you probably have a problem with your fuel not getting in, which leads to troubleshooting the carb and intake.

Hi, try taking sparkplug out and get a screwdriver and put it in the sparkplug hole then gently move the stater round with a spanner untill the screwdriver moves up when it is as high as it can go tdc then take the screwdriver out, then put the sparkplug back in the ht lead and put the electrode part of the sparkplug on the side of the head then undo the stater and turn the ignition on,then turn untill sparkplug sparks, tighten stater, put plug back in it should start, then you will need to put a timing light on for fine ajustment.
good luck I hope this was helfull,PH.

Hi there, Just wondering if you would be able to help me. I was using my 4-stroke ride on lawn mower today through some really long grass. It turned off, and wouldn't start again. The engine is...

I would first check for spark by removing the sparkplug, put the wire back on it and ground the nut part on metal part of the engine and have someone turn the key. You should have spark between the gap of the sparkplug. If you are getting good spark take a straw and put it in a cup of gasoline then hold your finger over the top hole and put the end of the straw in the spark plug hole and release your finger from the top of the straw. Do that a few times, put the plug back in and connect the wire. Turn the engine over and if it tries to start you have a fuel problem. If it does not do anything you have to check the engine for compression whith a compression gauge.

My 06 gsxr 750 will not start. New battery, getting fuel, replaced old fuel and bike will not turn over. What can I do to check if is getting spark?

if the bike will not turn over you mean it doesnt crank? because if it doesnt crank over then its a starter issue and could be a simple as a blow fuse, but then why did the fuse blow? ( starter going bad)..... or it could be the starter solenoid itself, and this is where i believe you might find the fuse. response feedback appreciated.

take the sparkplug out and crank it over slowly when air pushes out is usually a compression stroke stop when the piston reach's the top..spin it over 2-3 times make sure you feel air rushing out the sparkplug hole put your finger in the hole it should push your finger out .

It sounds like you are in need of a valve job on it. You can check this by removing the spark plug and holding a finger or thumb tightly over the hole while someone pulls the starter cord. If it doesn't literally "pop" your finger off the hole, you have a leaking valve and need to do a valve job or at the very least a valve adjustment

Oil leaking into sparkplug holes on rubber boots

Buy a new valve cover gasket set (and a small tube of silicon high temp sealer). It comes with new rubber seals for each sparkplug hole, and the cover perimeter.Use a little silicon glue on the gaskets to hold them in place. Take your time,do the work with a cold engine in a shaded area. Clean all the oil off the wires and make sure all the old gasket rubber is cleaned off.And check to make sure before you put the cover back on that no old gasket pieces are in the engine.

Chranks hard,won't start

you need to adjust the valves with the cylinder 1/4 inch below top dead center to get the decompression lobe to function right during cranking.
