I have a similar problem with my toshiba equium A100 - 027. Power is reaching the machine but the screen is blank. the machine was working fine when it was closed down on Monday. What do I do?

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

I have a tecra m2-s730 that displays the boot screen then back light goes out but you can still see image..what could be problem

1) test it to an external source like a tv, or external monitor through the vga ports, svideo ports. If promblem is solved, and everything seems to be going normal, then your screen is history, bad backlighting and needs screen replacement. 2) Bootup screens seems to work fine, ( like it has backlighting and light all work fine and normal) but when it turns over to loading your o/s and it get dark even with a external monitor, then it's a driver issue or your vga chipset is bad and you will need to replace your motherboard, ( in this case it is best to buy a new laptop). 3) Bios error issue, bios has become currupt somehow, you can try loading default value given in the exit tab in your bios menu. Load and save and exit. See if it works, if not your VGA chipset is screw, and motherboard will need to be replaced to fix this issue.

Laptop wont power up..... hard drive light blinks... checked hard drive and it fine... i tryed with 3 different power cords/ power supplies....

You checked the hard drive and did it boot another computer?
Do you achieve POST and get to the BIOS menu?
If you do get that far, then you have a boot sector fault, if you don't reach POST then you have a Motherboard fault and it will require service with a Toshiba agent.
If you have a boot sector fault press F8 as the BIOS screen is leaving the display.
Choose Recovery and follow the prompts.
Hope this helps.

have you tried installing or running the drivers disc for your laptop right after the windows installation without restarting it first? that might do the trick... it's either the driver for your laptop's board/ chipset or the vga driver...

The 'Fn' key doesn't seem to work anymore. Need to brighhten my screen

go into the bios ( F2 or Delete or which ever key it states when the computer starts up to get into the bios )

Ensure that the FN key is not disabled in the bios, if it is re enable it and try it again.

Otherwise I would call toshiba and see if the warranty covers it still if not you may have to get them to repair it or call around laptop shops to get them to look at it - may require to replace the keyboard .

Toshiba Satellite A100 LE4000 Turns Off Randomly

there must be still a problem with your current cooling system. try cleaning up your laptops fan. cpu gets heated up very easily even if you turned it off for a while. you can do this by unscrewing the parts, the inside must be pretty dusty or something. this also happened to me but from a different unit.

also, try checking for the latest bios driver for your laptop and to be sure, download it on toshiba site itself. because latest drivers for your bios also manages the control of your cpu fans.

if you could also get access to your systems cooling options in bios, try checking if your cpu's temperature are doing fine.

but i prefer you cleaning up the inside fans as well. hope this helps.

Toshiba satellite A100

did it ever read from the CD drive or was it like this out of the box? I have had this before. There was a hair/dust on the lense of the laser...DO NOT use your fingers to clean it off. You must have a proper lense cloth to whipe it (cloth for eye glasses or micro fiber cloth for monitor screens, do not use any other cloth)
