I have a uniden bc 70xlt scanner but I cant find a user manual for it anywhere. I can program the 20 channels ok but I dont know about the "pri", "srch", "limit", or "dly" buttons. I push them and either nothing happens or I get an error message.

Re: Cant find user manual for it.
Pri is priority. On older Bearcat scanners, channel 1 is priority. When this is turned on, the scanner will automatically switch to channel 1 if there is a transmission on that channel.
Srch is search. It will enable you to check all frequencies in a certain, user definable range. Let's say you want to check every frequency between 154.000 and 155.000 for traffic. You would type the following sequence. 154.000 limit 155.000 limit search
If you have a "hold" button, that will allow you to stay on a frequency while searching after the transmission has stopped.
Dly is delay. This will add a 2 second delay to the end of a transmission before scanning or searching resumes. This prevents the scanner from missing a reply to a transmission when a conversation is taking place.

I recommend that you first scan the weather band to make sure that the scanner is working properly. You should be able to pick up one of the NOAA broadcast frequencies just about anywhere in the USA. No reception? Your scanner probably needs professional repair. If you receive weather broadcasts, make sure that you have active frequencies for your area programmed into the scanner. You can find a comprehensive database of active frequencies, and a lot of other useful scanning information by visiting: www.RadioReference.com
Need the manual for your scanner? You can download and print it, at no cost, here: http://www.uniden.com/pdf/BC95XLTom.pdf
Follow the link below to download/print the manual for your scanner. You may or may not be able to hear the services you mentioned using this scanner due to its limited frequency coverage. Many public service agencies now transmit in the 800MHz range, and many have upgraded to trunked and even digital radio systems. I cannot find any reference to PCH LOCK, but an educated guess would be that it means all programmed channels are locked out. If none of the 10 channels contain programmed frequencies, displays will show 000.0000MHz, and all channels will be locked out. Programming a frequency into any channel should override the lockout. On the other hand, the message could indicate that this old scanner is tired and in need of replacement. Here's the link to your manual:

To program a BC 70XLT turn the scanner on and hit the man key. enter the channel you want to program (ie 1) hit the man key again then enter the frequency you want to scan (IE 450.625) then hit the E key to enter the freq into the location if you want to sequence to the next channel then hit the man key again enter the freq and hit the E key.you can go through all 20 channels this way.
If it's indeed a BC-100 and not a BC-100xlt, the 16 channels are easy to program and use. 1. Press MANUAL 3 MANUAL with 3 being the number of the channel you wish to program. 2. Enter the frequency for that channel (e.g., 162.55) followed by ENTER. 3. Follow the same sequence for each channel you wish to program, except that pressing MANUAL after you program a channel will advance the scanner to the next channel.
To scan, simply press the SCAN button after your frequencies are programmed.
