Won't detect a jack being plugged in

I just had to have Vista reinstalled and now when I plug the earphones in the music stills plays through the speakers but won't play through the earphones, I have to stop the song and plug the earphone in to get it to work through the earphones, also when I plug the earphone in or take it out it doesn't seem to detect the jack. When I plug in my headphones into the earphone jack on the HP xw4600 workstaion and play music i can hear the music from the 2.1 speaker

If you are saying when earphone plug is inserted you still have sound from speakers either jack on headphones is wrong(stereo or mono?) or the socket the jack plugs into is defective---when a jack is inserted it moves a leaf in the socket to turn the main speakers off.

No matter what set of head phones i plug into to my lyra rca mp3 player the left ear phone won't play anything

Hi,

Most of this symptoms is a caused by bad solder joints on the earphone jack of the player. The unit must be take apart and re-solder the joints of the earphone jack. You need a pointed soldering iron to do this. If the symptoms still persist, the fault is in the audio circuitry. You must sent it in because this is not DIY, parts are too small and surface mounted.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

Earphones on my turtle beach x1's not working

Try using the headset to listen to your iPod or MP3 player. Plug the USB plug into your Xbox or PC USB port, then plug the X1 green plug into the Headphones jack on your iPod or MP3 player. Make sure the master volume is up on the X1 (inline volume control box). Play a tune on the MP3 player. Do you hear the music? If yes, the X1 is fine. If no, you should contact Turtle Beach tech support and tell them about it.

My ipod touch plays the music, but the lyrics are distorted. Tried different earphones, but it's still the same. If I move the plug a bit, it sometimes clears up.

Sounds like a bad headphone jack. Contact Apple at 1-800-275-2273 (1-800-APL-CARE) if it's under warranty. If not, find an iPod repair company to see if they can re-solder the headphone jack.

Need to connect my ipod to the receiver.

You can do this a couple of ways, depending on the model of iPod.
1. Almost every iPod has an 1/8" earphone jack. Almost every Receiver has RCA input jacks. At Radio Shack, or any store with an electronics section, ask them for an cable with the 1/8" earphone plug on one end and stereo RCA jacks on the other.
Plug the RCA jacks into the receiver, taking note of the name of the input (Aux, iPod, Tape, etc) and plug the other end into the iPod. Set your receiver for the input you're connected to and press Play on your iPod. Enjoy music.
2. From the Apple Store, or any iPod dealer, purchase an iPod Dock for your particular model. Ask the same friendly folks for an audio connection cable and do the same as above for the Receiver end. On the iPod end, just set the iPod into the dock and press Play.
