Well, there are a variety of reasons that can consequently drag down the performance of your Mac. Meanwhile, there are certain ways through which you can considerably speed up your Mac machine. For example, you can reset the browser settings to regularly clear useless caches and history, get rid of all unwanted widgets from the dashboard through the Dashboard control panel, remove unnecessary applications, find out & delete those duplicated files. However, if you prefer a more efficient way to speed up your Mac, try the following all-in-one Mac speedup tool as it can help resolve all issues in just a few clicks.

It sounds like the HD has some damaged sectors which is effecting the OS. Boot from the OS disc and run 'First Aid' from 'Disc Utility' in the 'Utilities' menu in the top toolbar.
If this does not improve matters you may need to invest in 'Disc Warrior' or, as a last resort, replace the HD.

I got mac g4 just got face and ? on it, any have idea what going on it

Typically this is operating system corruption or a failed hard drive. If you can boot to your install media (CD, USB, or recovery partition) try a clean install. You could also try third party software solutions like Disk Warrior or Drive Genius (they supply bootable media) to fix the OS issues or check the disk for failures / corruption

The iMac G4 17" freezes cursor moves but nothing works.

Could be a lot of things. Try running Disk Utility from your install DVD:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1417

After that, if issues persist, try booting in Safe Boot Mode:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455
If the issue is resolved in Safe Boot, try removing third party startup items:
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/startupitems.html

If the issue persists in Safe Boot mode, try a new user.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
If issue is resolved in a new user, then you know it's something just in your user.
Delete the contents of the following, where ~ represents your user's home folder:
~/Library/Launch Agents
~/Library/Launch Daemons
~/Library/Startup Items
~/Library/Caches

This will usually resolve the issue.

If it persists in the new user, then the issue is likely with the operating system itself. At this point you should Archive and Install:

IMac G4 Mac Desktop: imac g4 wont boot up scree's just blue?...

If it only boots to a blue screen, try booting up in Safe Boot mode:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455

If this does not work, boot from your install DVD and use Disk Utility to repair the disk:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2956

If this does not resolve the issue you may need to use your isntall disc to perform an Archive and Install:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1710

IMac G4 Mac Desktop: i have a IMac G4 that when i start it a folder wit...

It can not find the hard drive or the startup folder on the hard drive. Try and fix that by putting in the original boot cd/dvd and repair and choose your hard drive start up folde as boot device. If you can not your hard drive may have died.

APPLE IMAC G4 - TRYING TO INSTALL OS WITHOUT DISK EJECT BUTTON

Reastart the iMac and at the same time hold down the mouse left click button. If that does not work.
  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Immediately after the startup sound, press and hold the key combination Command-Option-O-F.
Note: The Command key has the Apple and (commandkeysymbol.gif) icons on it.
  3. Release the keys when you see a white screen that says "Welcome to Open Firmware."
  4. At the prompt, type: eject cd
  5. Press Return, then wait a few seconds. The disc drive should eject any disc that is present, and "ok" appears behind your command when the action is complete.
  6. Type: mac-boot
  7. Press Return.

My G4 1.25ghz with 1 gb ram plays abc video slow.

Hello, sorry you are having trouble,
There are so many variables when it comes to Video play back on a Mac..
Yea, 1.25 Ghz with 1 GB of Ram answers most questions, yea, it should play OK,
BUT:
  • Is the video on a CD or DVD ? well, these iMacs don't have a very fast optical drive.
  • How much room do you have on your internal hard Drive, if it's too full ( more than 80% full ) then you will suffer read/write performance.
  • Is the video on an external harddrive, is it a USB drive? the USB on the iMac G4 is USB 1.1, 11Mbit/sec, way too slow to play a big video smoothly.
  • Just what is the size of the video, is it like that for all of them or just one, might it be a HD video with high frame rates?
  • What version of the MacOS X do you have installed? If you installed Leopard 10.5 on the iMac G4, nothing will run smoothly,
  • Are you playing this video over a network? forget it it's got to be on the internal or a FireWire external disk otherwise it will stagger...
Well, there you go, I know, it's so easy to say Hey man, just get a new Mac and everything will be fine... But that machine is going on 6 years old now, Video technology has not stood still.....

? imac g4 ? problem starting

This looks to be a hard drive issue....if you are familiar with the machine enough to take off the bottom plate.....requires a torx tool. I would take off the bottom plate and disconnect the hd, and then see if the machine will boot to cd...if it will then boot to cd then it is a hard drive... i would be careful though as there is a pad on the processor that cools it and if it becomes dislodged you can overheat the processor....

My computer completely rebooted and i cant get to the log in, what do i put in to get to the main frame

Try holding down the shift key after you hear the startup chime. This should start the Mac in Safe Mode and force some cleanup utilities to run. (Note that startup takes a bit longer than usual in Safe Mode.)
The login screen should show the words Safe Mode in red when startup is done. You can then restart and the Mac should boot normally.
