Question about ASUS MyPal A626

Virus Software Reports "Deep Throat" virus

Hi, I bought a used ASUS MyPal626. After I installed ActiveSync on my main PC, when I tried to sync, I received a virus detection report from my virus software, "Deep Throat". I did a soft reset on the 626 but still received the virus warning when it tried to sync. I am thinking that I need to do a hard reset but I could not find any reference to that. I removed the battery but still got the warning. I am not even sure if the virus warning is valid. Has anyone had a problem such as this? If so, what was the fix? What else could I try? Thanks!

Hi, Thanks for the answer back. I found and installed a virus program on my PDA. It reports no virus or malware but when I try and Sync it to my desk top my Virus software on my desk top reports a virus, "Deep Throat". The ASUS mypal A626 is running WM 5.0 and my desktop is running Windows XP Pro w/SP3. Thanks, grader01

Thanks!! You were correct, my computer had malware, 3 items that my virus software did not identify. I checked all my computers since they are networked and all were clean except for one. Thanks again. Now I need to find the source of the problem. I am going to try and sync my pocket PC, ASUS A626 to my desktop and see if it generates a virus alert. grader01

Thanks! I think the problem is solved. I put AirScanner on my PPC and did not find any malware. However, I did run malawarebytes and found 3 incidents on my desktop PC. My virus software did not catch the malware until I tried to sync my pocket PC to the desktop using mysync from Microsoft. Thanks again, grader01

    See: http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/dthroat....
Then go to the first link I provided and install the MBAM on your desktop, update it and run a scan of your system to determine if your have a Win32.DeepThroat infection that has not been dealt with by your anti-virus software.

Hi,

You are right. "Deep Throat is indeed a spyware program, that shows fake virus warning.
I suggest you to remove the program as soon as possible. Please try to remove the program through add/remove program, if it is not getting removed you can try a tool named Combofix

This tool will remove all the infections from your computer and you can download the tool from the following link

When going into safemode try selecting safemode with networking. If possible go to malwarebytes.org and download their free software. If still unable to download it try using another pc and download the program to a flashdrive/thumbdrive. Once the program is installed you will be able to run it in safemode. This particular program catches just about everything in it's scans and is a great supplemental tool to your regular virus software. If more assistance is needed don't hesitate to ask.

Tip

How to speed up computers.

**1The main reason which slowdowns system is VIRUS ATTACK.
Powerful tool to avoid this is installing Anti Virus.
Anyhow installing a anti virus is not sufficient. You need update the anti virus continuously(once for a week)
Updating means:-Hackers will generate the viruses and they will upload those viruses to internet data base every day.Which enters our computer when connected internet. The companies which provides the anti virus software will scans those viruses and they update those virus name our anti virus data base so that if any programs by those virus names which are in anti virus data base.Anti virus will block those programs.
So It's necessary to update the anti virus program continuously.

If you have genuine Windows operating system you can use "Microsoft Security Essentials" for FREE.

**2The reason which slowdowns PC is creation of unwanted sectors in hard disc.

For this Defragmentation is the best method to clear unwanted sectorsTo defragment the hard disc Select the partition>Right click>Properties>Tools>Defragment disk>Defragment>ok
Watch this...

**3)Another aspect which slow downs the system is creation of error sectors
you can use Check Now option to clear error sectorTo activate Check Now*Select the partition>Right click>Properties>Tools>check nowIt check for error during next reboot

**You can use "CHKDSK" command in DOS(instant check)

**3)You can use Disk Cleanup to delete temporary files, offline pages, log files, queued and error reports(These files are not important and files consumes much memory which can't cleared by us so we need to use Disk Cleanup.
To use this thisSelect the partition>Right click>Properties>select Disk

Cleanup (Disk Cleanup can be used for C: drive only effectively(Because temporary files, offline pages, log files, queued and error reports are saved in C: only)

**Options and Menu's are with respect to Windows7 & Windows related operating systems.

Thank you have a nice day

Can a virus infected pc be treated instead of reformatting it?

Yes it is possible but it may not fully remove the virus, it depends upon the type of virus infection.
If you have not installed a virus protection program, then this makes your task more difficult.
I would try a WEB base virus removal program first, provided you can connect to the Internet. Try these WEB base virus links first and if successful then install a virus program.
WEB-based Virus Scan Trend Micro housecall
http://housecall.trendmicro.com
symantec - Norton Security Scan
http://security.symantec.com
If all fails then you need to format your hard disk and install Windows again together with the computer's device drivers and your programs.
