Question about Lenovo 3000 N500 Notebook

Lenovo n500 major issues

Need an xp recovery disk/iso for a lenovo 3000 n500
also need a way to run chkdsk /f on this system but unable to do so thu safe mode and desktop will not load. XP install fails leads me to believe i need to run chkdsk /f

    os would not finish its reload. Disk is not locked. os is just like semi-loaded so no safemode and other opitions.

    1.) i am a fellow tech running my own company
    2.) i have no data to save and done reload after reload
    3.) can not get sm bus controller causing blue screen when i can find old driver (reason for reload)
    4.) lenovo says xp will work and has xp drivers but can not send restore disc's to client without massive charges.
    5.) client will not sleep till xp pro sp3 is on and workin
    6.) never had a laptop cause me so much grief
    7.) need good generic hdd utility to do sfc commands chkdsk commands and so forth
    8.) can not do safemode install will not finish till chkdsk is done

    i can burn cd's no issue i have a repair shop
    i need xp iso recovery disk so i can burn and reload
    xp will not reload till i fix the chkdsk issue

    I know the feeling. Was there all last week! It's the end of my day here and I'll be heading home. I'll be back online in about 1 and a hld hours. Have you checked sysinternals to see if they have any utilities that might help? I'll take a look when I get home and see if I can find anything for you.

    Just so I understand correctly, was this laptop Vista and you are rolling it back to XP, or has it always been XP?

    OK, I don't think chkdsk would have helped, so let's move ahead.

    Do you have the XP installation disk?
    Is there any data on the hard drive that you would like to save?
    Do you have access to another computer to download files, etc?
    Do you have a USB memory stick?
    Is it possible for youto burn a CD?

    I just went though a similar problem on one of my PCs. It took several days to get everything reinstalled, but the end result was good.

    A couple of questions first. Why are you unable to run chkdsk /r in safe Mode? What message do you get? If it is that the disk is in use or can't be locked, enter 'Y' to run it when Windows starts and then restart the computer. Chkdsk will run when Windows starts the next time. I have seen it on some systems where the screen will stay black while chkdsk is running, so if that happens, just watch the drive activity light. If it's blinking, the app is running.

    Now about the install, what issues were you having and what type of installation are you trying to do, a repair and a new install?

For fdisk utility Boot from xp bootable cd,Go to the repair option.In this section you have to mention username & password.Then start Fdisk /f utility.

Have you used this system before successfully?

If so it sounds like you might have a corrupt or missing boot or system file. You'll need a repair disk or system disk to fix it. You need to get to a dos prompt (black screen with white writing) and run the Check Disk command.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents,music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

I do. Open the Lenovo 3000 N500 Notebook PC, and un-stick it.

You need the Service Manual.
Lenovo calls it an HMM.

Turn off the PC. Then press the Novo key until it boots. You'll find the options there.

Lenovo n500 3000 display driver problem?


Other than RAM there are also other things to be considered to be able to experience great gaming experience. Commonly the slow and laggy experience are due to insufficient RAM, low video memory, internet connction if your playing online,disk space and processor. And no its nor a driver issue. The best way is to solve this is to check the recommended "system requirements" of the games your playing. If all requirements are met i'm pretty sure you'll be able to play games smoothly. good luck!

" Rescue and Recovery Disk Duplication"


You cannot grab the drivers from one computer and copy it to another computer, you need to know which files and also there would be some register entries.
If you have the driver disk, then you can use the same disk to install the driver onto another computer, provided they are identical.

Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows Vista device drivers for your model laptop,

After you download the driver file, click on this file and it will unzip/expand the drivers and copies these files to the hard drive in c:drivers... take a note of the folder it has created to store the driver files and then go to this folder and run the SETUP file to install the driver.

To fix the problem
Disable the S.M.A.R.T error detection feature in the CPUCool program or similar utility.
Boot to the Windows 2000 or XP installation CD, and at the Startup menu, press R for repair.
In the Recovery Console, type the following:
chkdsk /p
When the CHKDSK process has finished, reboot the computer.
Run the program again.
The error should no longer be reported unless you start using the S.M.A.R.T error detection feature again.

Error occurs with PartitionMagic 8.0
If you encounter Error 1516 with PartitionMagic 8, first run CHKDSK /F on the affected partition. For instructions on how to run CHKDSK, read How to Run Microsoft's CHKDSK from the Command Line. If this does not fix the error, try running PartitionMagic with the /IFC switch, which causes file system errors to be ignored.
To run PartitionMagic with the /IFC switch
Boot from the first PartitionMagic rescue disk.
When you are prompted to insert the second rescue disk, press Ctrl+C to drop to the command (A:>) prompt.
Insert the second PartitionMagic rescue disk and type the following:
pqmagic /ifc
Press Enter.
