I jsut bought this 93 ford escort lx station wagon

I just bought this 93 ford escort lx station wagon and i drove from az to ca to pick up my kids to take them back to az and i was going up the hill and i could smell the clucth and now it revs reall high before ingaging into gear and it got great gas mileage so i'm wondering whats up

    clutch is self adjusting? It may need replacing. Are you driving with your foot on the clutch?

If this is a manual transmission the clutch has burned out, it may need to be replaced, if you do not do your own mechanic work I would suggest that you take it to a good local repair shop and have them check it out. If this is an automatic I would still suggest the same, but the actual problem could be more complex. Hope this helps, let me know.

After tank is removed, use a brass only punch and a hammer and knock ring on tank loose counter-clockwise. Then pull out pump and sending unit.
