Question about HP Color Inkjet cp1700ps Printer
A long, thin piece of almost clear but grayish plastic came out of the printer today when I took out a jammed sheet of paper. The dimensions are: 22 3/16" long x 1/4" wide. I looked inside with a flashlight and even though I can see where the two holes might attach, it isn't all that clear as to what I should do. I saw a similar Lexmark printer problem on your website that was solved by Garfunkel01 who says his solution is a universal fix for all printers. I I could send someone pictures of what mine looks like inside can someone help me "see" where to attach the two ends of my plastic piece. Thanks!
SOURCE: Error Message - Paper Jam
I had a paper jam. I removed the offending sheet of paper which unfortunately tore into 4 pieces as it came out. Upon piecing the sheet of paper back together - there is a small piece missing. I've checked the printer thoroughly - nothing can be found!

give this a try
try this, its probably a small part of jammed paper or then theres a problem with the pickup, try cleaning it.
Load a piece of thick paper, for example photo paper and press the resume button (may be diffrent button on diffrent models) a few times to the printer picks up the paper and puts it through the machine.

verify the flags and the sensors. If the problem persists, the cause of the error message could be a broken sensor or sensor lever.

Constant jam indication. This gear is more than likely the cause after exhausting all other avenues. Also nearly impossible to get to let alone replace even if HP offered the part. There is a black cover over the clutch assy that can be removed to reveal the gear. In most cases the gear is either sitting in the bottom of the machine or split down one side. This is the second machine that I have diagnosed with this problem in a very short time. If you have this broken gear, consider it toast. Matt / E-tech Copier and printer repair.
