I have a nuova simonelli oscar professional espresso machine...the water reservoir if full, but the "empty tank" light wont turn off, therefore the pump wont work...I am using tap water, the steam wand is open.
I have the same machine. I just went on the coffee geeks website and it is easily solved. Just add a few grains of salt to the reservoir - the sensor cant detect water that is purified - strange but true as four grains and it fired up just like that.
We had the same problem when we used bottled water. 4 grains of salt got it working again.
So glad I found these posts -- we had the same problem -- tried the salt -- and presto -- we have our morning cappos' back -- don't know why / how this works but sure glad it does !

Same thing for me. We're away on an island and using purified water. This easy fix saved me. Only took 4 grains of salt. Thanks!
