Dryer does not heat; washer stops during cycle

I have a Frigidaire Electrolux GLET1031CS0 stackable washer/dryer. My problem with the dryer is intermittent. Sometimes the coil heats up, but most of the time it does not. So, the dryer never gets hot. But now, the washer stops midway through the cycle as well. I had an appliance guy come out and he looked at my vents on top of my house and said they were clear and heat was coming through it just fine. So, both my washer and dryer have issues - the dryer still doesn't heat up and the washer stops in the middle of a cycle. It all started when I replaced the start switch for my dryer. Doing this wouldn't have much affect on these 2 issues, would it?

SOURCE: Dryer still not heating

It's always worth tracing the wiring from power supply through programmer and timer, up to and between the various components on the heater duct, and from there back to the power supply terminals. It's not often that something unplugs itself, but it costs nothing to check and could save a lot of frustration. Have you got access to a multimeter? If not, suggest you get yourself a cheap one (never bought one in the States, but I expect you can get one from Home Depot for $10-15). With everything switched off and unplugged, measure the resistance across the terminals of the element. Expect to see about 20 ohms, give or take quite a lot. If you're seeing hundreds or thousands of ohms, you need a new element. Make a similar measurement across the thermostat and thermal cutout. Each of these should read very nearly zero ohms. If either reads much more than an ohm or two, it needs replacing (or resetting!). It's also possible that you're looking at a controller/timer problem - but eliminate the other things first. Good luck. A.

SOURCE: Model 417.94802301 stackable with electrical haywire?

you got a problem with your power supply for sure. check and make sure both your breakers are on inside the fuse box. turn them completely off and them back on(there should be 2 linked together for this unit. if that ok try to gt behind the unit and check the incoming power source(make sure wiring on rear of dryer is in tact. def sounds like inadequate power supplied to unit

SOURCE: Electric dryer intermittently doesn't heat

If your dryer has a timer with quick connects which easily plug into it then you can possibly fix this problem. Yank both connects off the timer and remove the timer. Take the 2 motor screws off and remove the plate carefully. Clean the contacts on each leaf switch with a file. Put it back and retry. Sounds difficult but it isn't. Remember only the timer with the 2 quick connects.

Grinding noise before spin cycle

Good Morning John,

I see that you are hearing a grinding noise before the spin cycle in your Frigidaire washer, model# GLET1031CS0. A certain amount of "grinding" or gear sounds are normal in a heavy-duty washer. If you notice that the grinding sound appears to be getting louder, I suggest contacting either the manufacturer or your local authorized technician for further assistance. Hope this is helpful.
