Question about Pure Digital Flip Video Ultra Camcorder

1 Answer

Camera software corrupted??

When I plug the camera into USB port, computer won't recognize it. Also, once I turn on the camera, non of the buttons work: power switch, play video button, delete button, record button. Nothing works and I want to retrieve the videos that are on the recorder. I have to turn it off by taking out the batteries.

So far, I have figured out that if I turn on the power while I am holding down the "minus" sign on the controls on the back of the unit, then the camera will work. I tried this because if you power on at the same time as holding down the "plus" sign, that opens up the menu to set the date and time. That still works. There is no reset button in the tripod mount hole on the Flip Ultra (at least, that I can figure out).

I had the same problem with my flip mino HD. Here are the steps I took to fix it.

1. Adjust the power options on your laptop to ensure it does not sleep/hiberate ever.
2. Reset the camcorder by inserting a paperclip into the hole in the tripod mount. Hold the paperclip in there for about seven seconds.
3. Then immediately plug the flip into the cpu.
4. You may not see anything besides the little blinking white light on the USB arm for a while (about 30 minutes maybe) but leave it in.
5. Eventually it should spring to life and show the recharging battery on the little screen (the Flip Share program may start too.)
6. Leave it charging until the little white light stops flashing - full charge about 3 hours.
7. You can then remove the flip and change the power settings back to normal.

Ah. The ultra may not have the same reset capabilities via the tripod mount. The other way to reset the mino is to hold down the power button for about 5 seconds - this might work on the ultra too.... not sure.

Hi there.

All you need to do is connect your camera to your pc using the usb cable that it came with. Once connected, turn the camera on so for the pc to recognize it. Once recognized by the pc, the camera will show as external usb device. Just go to my computer, locate for the camera, then click on it. You can start transferring all the photos from the camera to the pc by then.

I have plugged it in and it my computer will not recognize that the USB is even plugged in, but it does charge the camera.

Try all the different USB Ports on your computer, sometimes certain ports can 'glitch' and not recognize the device that you've plugged in. If you've tried plugging it in all the ports and your computer still hasn't recognized the camera, re-install the driver software for the Olympus SP800UZ.
If all else fails, you can also contact Olympus customer service, they're quite prompt and helpful.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

There are also plenty of photo catalog software packages out there, some free, some not, that can transfer and catalog your pictures so you can quickly find pictures from Susie's birthday party, for example. Just do a google search for "photo catalog software".

Cannot upload pics from camera to PC

Hi Ray;
Try uninstalling the Fuji software completely, through the Windows control panel. Don't use the supplied software at all. Make sure the camera is unplugged from the computer. Open "my computer" and note which drives are present. Now plug in the camera (still turned off) to the USB port. Turn the camera power switch on. Wait and see if a new drive icon shows up. It may take a minute or so. If you get a new icon (probably Fuji DSC or similar), you should be able to open the new drive and access the images through the various folders. If not, can you see images on the camera screen (when not connected to computer)? If yes, maybe a bad cable. If no, could be corrupted images on card.
