HI. if this unit isn't powering up, it could be an issue with the power supply board. To confirm this diagnosis, i would unplug this unit from the surge protector for about 5 minutes. once the 5 minutes are up, plug the unit into a regular wall socket. If the unit doesn't power back up after being unplugged for 5 minutes, this will confirm the power supply failure. you can order another power supply board form the manufacture or, you can simply send the unit back to Sony for this repair as well. If this unit is not plugged into a surge protector, it may have received a surge of some sort.

Please rate and god bless:)

Hello
This is usually a oveheating issue.
First take ps3 and unplug all cables and power.
Then Remove harddrive. Take a can of compressed air and blow out all dust and dirt from console.
Make sure fan is clean and working free.

Put ps3 back together and locate in a place where there will be good ventilation.

Hi, my ps3 was working fine then turned it on yesterday and there isnt any menu on the screen and the controllers dont work and when u put a game in nothing happens. regards mark

Hi Mark,

If you are getting the YLOD oryellow light I will run through what causes it and how you can fix it.

Causes:

The yellow light is caused by internal overheating and the main chips that takethe damage are the GPU and the CPU.

You need to stop the heat build up and you will be able to get back to gamingagain.

Solution:

You can either send the console back in for repair and they will fix it foryou, however it will take about 4 weeks to get this done and it will cost about$150 for the repair!

Quicker Solution:

For a faster way to fix it you can use a good YLOD Repair guide thatwill show you with videos how to stop the heat build up and get back to gaming.

The important thing is to make sure that you get a guide that is up to the job!

My ps3 has stopped showin the icons but its loading up the front screen is there but no icons ?

Your software needs re-installing, follow this procedure :

Step 1. Turn the PS3 off into standby (red light on)

Step 2. Press and hold the power button. It will beep when you first press it, beep again 5 seconds later and then beep once more and switch off back into standby mode (red light on)

Step 3. Press and hold the power button again. It will beep when you press it, then beep again 5 seconds later, then there will be 2 quick beeps together. Release the power button when you hear these 2 quick beeps.

Step 4. The PS3 will start up asking you to connect a controller via USB and press the PS button. Do this and then move onto the next step.

Step 5. A menu will load up with 6 options. Choose option 3 first "Restore File System" and go through this process. If this does not work do the above but choose option 4, then as a last resort option 5. A warning though, option 5 will erase all your data on the hard drive.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

Nothing shows on the screen and wen i want to tern it off doesn't want so i have to unplagued

Thats probable a problem with the wire connecting the ps3 to the tv or its set to HD or vice versa. try holding down the power button until you hear 2 beeps together, see if that works. i think a game has to be in the ps3 for it to work.

I have a PS3 100 volts, is it posible to change the power supply t0 220v,

BEFORE READING THIS PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT HAVE A PS3 AND I DON'T KNOW IF THIS WILL WORK. IT HAS WORKED FOR OTHER THINGS FOR ME BEFORE, BUT I CAN'T SAY FOR SURE THAT IT WILL WORK IN THIS CASE.
No, but you can get a 100v power supply and splice you ps3 power supply to it. if you dont know how to splice something, you simply cut both cords, strip the wires, and solder or twine the correct wires together. if the wires are insulated inside the shrink wrap (outer coating of rubber), that makes it even easier. just match the colors.

Didn't eject disc before taking apart to clean laser

there is a certin tool that PS use's to put the ps3 together that stops that part because its a cd restrictive plate that stops multple cds to be in the PS3 at a time. Ur best bet would be to either send it to P.S and have dem fix it for you or bring it to a gamestop or any other gaming store.

You may have to take the PS3 to the store that you bought it from and see if they can fix it if it isn't ejecting.

Like the 360, the PS3 also has problems.  This problem is known as the SoD (spin of death). In this the lens of your PS3 stops working. Sony is the best one that can help for this kind of error. Best to stick with them, or if your retailer has an exchange policy, ask for a new PS3. But my local dealer fixes this up for 125$.
