SOURCE: new homelite chainsaw runs for about 3 seconds and

Are you using the choke and setting the fast idle? Make sure you have 50:1 fuel-oil mix in the fuel tank and that the fuel can is thoroughly shaken just before adding to the tank to prevent oil starvation. If you are following all of the manual directions with proper fuel /oil, take the saw back to where you bought it and get them to start it for you. Warranty should take care of this. Good luck!

SOURCE: HOMELITE 27AV CHAINSAW WILL NOT START. CLEANED

Hi chuckbjr44,
Have you checked the compression ?The way to do that is take the plug out and ground the plug wire by tying it out of the way so that it touches on some metal .Use a compression gauge while a friend pulls the rope.It sounds like rings to me. Thank you for using Fix Ya. ps you can a local repair shop for the specs on the right compression for your saw.

SOURCE: Homelite chainsaw won't stay running

I have a Homelite 33cc which has never run smoothly since it was brand new. Erratic running, sometimes wont idle, and never seems to develop full power. Adjusting the jets achieved no lasting improvement. In frustration I stripped it down right back to the intake port on the cylinder and found the problem. The two screws that hold the the carb mounting plate to the cylinder were a tad too long in manufacture, and even though done up very tight they bottomed out in their holes before applying proper pressure to the sealing gasket, which then developed some "flutter" in the airflow and partially disintegrated, leaving massive air leaks. No way it was EVER going to run properly like that. Check that this isn't the problem area on your particular model before you go crazy trying to tune your carburetor.

My six year old chainsaw won't start?

If it ran before you stored it and you left gas in it, you can thank ethanol for your troubles.Try fresh mixed gas with a heavy does of ethanol treatment or Seafoam in the tank, prime it and try to start it 10 times, then let it soak for a few days and try again. Good luck

I have a poulin pro 220 chainsaw. I just replaced the primerbulb and the only way it stays running is if the choke is fully on. If you put the choke to half or off it runs for a few seconds then dies

Check and see if the fuel line is collapsing when you start. The wonderful gas that we have contains alcohol which deteriorates rubber. Gas lines and many carburetor parts are eaten up by this gas. When you go to start your saw it has enough to run but the suction from the carburetor collapses the fuel line, weakened from the alcohol, not allowing any more fuel to pass. When the suction stops, when the saw shut off, the fuel opens up again allowing you to start it again. I had this problem when the government forced this crappy gas on us in the late eighties and I had to carry extra spare parts for my saws because of these problems. Anyways enough ranting, try and change the fuel line and that would most likely be your problem. If it is an old saw it might have done damage to your carburetor and it will need a carburetor kit/rebuild which is not usually too expensive. Hope this helped.

I have a Pouan Pro. I can start it but then when I give it gas it seems to have no power. It doesn't die, just gets no power. Occasionally it revs.

It may well be running too rich because the air filter is blocked, remove the filter and just try the revs again free running, if ok, clean/replace the filter.

After starting and letting it idle for 30 seconds I start to cut but it starts to die when I give it gas it goes for a while then dies

What I do with my stihl saws is after starting I let it warm up for a few seconds and then run it at full throttle for about thirty seconds. If your saw does not want to keep running I would check to make sure air filter is clean. Next you can adjust carb.setting for idle and hi speed, check your manual for instructions. Also I would remove and clean spark plug, check gap and reset or replace as needed. Make sure your gas oil mix is proper and gas has not been setting for a long time,no more than a couple of months without some type of fuel stabilizer. I use either STA-BIL or sea foam at a rate of 2 to4 ounces per gallon of gas. About the only other thing I might suggest is to check the feul filter. They usually are located on fuel pick up line inside gas tank and can be a pain to get to. Good luck and I hope this helps Thanks

Homelite chainsaw won't stay running

Make sure you are using fresh fuel mix (50:1 ratio). Don't use boat motor oil in a saw--only modern synthetics made for saws. Always premix the oil and fuel thoroughly before adding to the saw. Check the fuel filter for plugging and the condition of all fuel lines, plus the primer bulb condition. Check all carburetor fasteners for tightness. Make sure the air filter and muffler are not plugged. If still no help, you may need to service the carburetor. For an excellent article on Walbro carburetors, go to: http://www.drystacked.com Pay particular attention to the placement of the lower diaphragm and the cover gasket--interchanging positions of them cause many headaches. Adjustment of the two jet screws require a special 'D' screwdriver which may necessitate a trip to a servicing dealer for adjustment. Hope this helps!

Homelite 6000 Generator running rough, now won't start

Sounds like the engine is not getting enough fuel. Two possible problems:
1) I know this is a dumb question, but did you turn the fuel back on?
2) If the answer to question 1 is yes, then the small fuel filter inbetween the gas tank and carburetor probably has hardened. The inside of the fuel filter is a piece of foam and it is really common for the in line fuel filters to harden when no fuel is present and cause a clog in the fuel line. Try replacing the inline fuel filter and life should be good!
