The Thinkpad T20 is a laptop computer from IBM designed for business use. This computer comes with the Windows XP operating system and--if necessary--can be reloaded with the operating system. All you need to perform this operation is the installation disc for Windows XP and a valid product key. This product key can be found on the bottom of the computer or with the documents included with the machine (if Windows XP was pre-installed on the computer).
Windows XP CDProduct key 1 Turn on your T20 laptop computer and press the blue "ThinkVantage" button.
2 Scroll through the options and select the option to boot from your T20's CD/DVD drive. 3 Press the "Enter" key at the welcome window and press the "F8" key once you have read (and agreed to) the license terms for installing the software. 4 Select the drive on which you want to install Windows XP and press the "C" button, followed by the "Enter" button. 5 Press the "Enter" button again to start the installation process. When prompted, enter the product key for Windows XP. Once the setup finishes, you can use the computer.
Download and the run free version of SIW (System Information for Windows: http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html
Scroll down to SIW Without Installer (English-Only),
Once it's running click on "licenses" in the left hand margin and your product key will be displayed.
your product key is your ticket to get activated with windows and is also you activation key, which called product key by Microsoft,
whatever windows you have installed on your system I believe when you installed your windows you were asked to enter the product key on the onset of starting windows during installation, if I may ask are you getting an error when entering you Product key or are you getting a pop up that you windows is Not genuine? cause if your product key is valid then you should not be having any issue regarding your product key, was you installer of windows purchased from a retailer or Microsoft itself? if from Microsoft call them they can help you out, if from a retailer and the product key is not being accepted call them and inform them that the disc and the product key don't match they should replace at last the disc or give you the correct product key for the disc sent to you, if the disc you have came from the laptop or computer manufacturer then you will need to call them it is possible that they have a way to correctly install the Operating system without having an error.
Back up your personal data like pictures and word documents if you have some in the system just to be on the safe side ^_^
are you installing windows 7 over an existing Vista operating system or an XP? if you are then you try installing windows 7 over the old operating system installed on your pc but in the installation process you will have an option to select upgrade or custom/advance option which you should select to be able to use your product key and should not give you any errors after the installation. ^_^
That is true for most all service packs. Some Upgrades, especially if the upgrade is a Major one, and changes the first number of the version of the software (eg 3.01 to 4.0) those may cost ya, but minor revisions (eg 3.01 to 3.25) should be free and without keys.
