Only Wndows XP Corporate Edition allows you to continue without a product key. Otherwise, there are "pirate" copies of XP which do not require product keys.

I have valid product key how to get Windows XP activation key

your product key is your ticket to get activated with windows and is also you activation key, which called product key by Microsoft,

whatever windows you have installed on your system I believe when you installed your windows you were asked to enter the product key on the onset of starting windows during installation, if I may ask are you getting an error when entering you Product key or are you getting a pop up that you windows is Not genuine? cause if your product key is valid then you should not be having any issue regarding your product key, was you installer of windows purchased from a retailer or Microsoft itself? if from Microsoft call them they can help you out, if from a retailer and the product key is not being accepted call them and inform them that the disc and the product key don't match they should replace at last the disc or give you the correct product key for the disc sent to you, if the disc you have came from the laptop or computer manufacturer then you will need to call them it is possible that they have a way to correctly install the Operating system without having an error.

Back up your personal data like pictures and word documents if you have some in the system just to be on the safe side ^_^

are you installing windows 7 over an existing Vista operating system or an XP? if you are then you try installing windows 7 over the old operating system installed on your pc but in the installation process you will have an option to select upgrade or custom/advance option which you should select to be able to use your product key and should not give you any errors after the installation. ^_^

Lost Product Key for Windows XP Service Pack 2 Installation cd

The product key is on the folder in which the genuine software disk was shipped to the buyer. MS Service Packs do not change the key nor should they require you to reinstall the key.
You have a pirated version of XP software and even with a key it will not pass Microsoft validation. It will be quickly disabled by Microsoft and you'll be left with a black screen.
You need to get a valid copy of the software.

Need to redownload windows XP Have no disc.

It's not available for download for free, you need to borrow a disc and you'll need your own product key to install it.

Product key

That is true for most all service packs. Some Upgrades, especially if the upgrade is a Major one, and changes the first number of the version of the software (eg 3.01 to 4.0) those may cost ya, but minor revisions (eg 3.01 to 3.25) should be free and without keys.

  12. Click Change Product Key.
  13. Type your new, valid Windows XP product key in the New key text boxes and then click Update.
  14. If you're taken back to the previous screen and prompted, choose Remind me later.
  15. Restart your PC.
  1. Not comfortable making registry changes? Luckily there is another option if you need to change your Windows XP product key code. The Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder, a popular product key finder program, also has the ability to easily change the Windows XP product key. If the registry makes you nervous, this is a great alternative solution to changing the Windows XP product key code manually.
