Question about Indesit W 123 Front Load Washer

Indesit WG1234T washer drum not turning

My old but until now trustworthy Indesit WG1234T washing machine has stopped working. It fills and empties OK but the drum doesn't turn or spin, although it will turn by hand. It developed a squealing/scraping noise during the spin cycles the last few times I used it, and I wondered if there was a trapped bra wire although it didn't make a noise when turning by hand and I couldn't see or feel anything poking through the holes. Also the other day I went to put clothes in and there was water in the drum, but I'm not sure if this was because the position of the outlet pipe under the sink had been disturbed or if it is related to the same problem. It hasn't filled with water since while not in use.

Any advice welcome.

I had the brushes replaced as they were worn right down and at first the drum started to rotate, but when I filled it with washing and the clothes became wet it stopped again.... possibly due to the weight? The engineer thinks the motor was on its way out and couldn't cope with the load and has burned out. The machine is about 15 to 20 years old so isn't worth replacing the motor, so think I will scrap it.

    Thanks for your reply.

Hi the sound of things, the brushes on the motor are worn out.easy to replace, each brush is secured by two screws at the rear of the motor, and will be black in colour,or a reddish may be easier to remove the motor to gain a cheap set from ebay,as generally speaking a repair and spares shop will ask four times the going rate.anyhow, once removed there should be at least 7mm of carbon left to make contact with the commutator(the part of the motor that turns)
hope this helps, belt could have snapped or come off also....

Indesit WG1234T - is there a filter and spin cycle not effective

If there is no filter located at the bottom right front of washer behind a re- moveable cover, then you need to remove the rear cover of washer.
Locate and remove the large black hose fastened to bottom of drum.
Remove and clean plastic filter inside hose.
Remove hose onto pump, and check for blockage or obstruction here as well.
This should help solve your prob.

Indesit wg1234t wont spin

I also have this common problem with my WG1234T. - The pump still works but the motor no longer spins. The brushes have a ton of life left in them. I tested the motor by connecting directly to power and it spins so the fault is most likely with the 'controller' unit - i.e. the switch/timer device behind the program knob. This device was not really working perfectly before and sometimes caused erratic working but I think it has now died altogether. I'll try to get it to bits to fix it as I don't believe you can still get a replacement controller for this machine.

Suggestion: The pipe behind your machine has to have a certain height (the machine drain pipe); it does not go directly into the drain at floor level. Check this out.
