Question about GE WSXH208A Front Load Washer

GE Adora Front Loading washer won't turn on

I have had this GE Front Loader for about six months. My husband bought it second hand (after reading these reviews I know why it was for sale) It worked fine until a few days ago when the thing would just not turn on. Its plugged in, we've never lost power. The floor around it isn't wet or anything. I just can't get it to power on at all. I noticed a moldy odor coming from the washer and in the clothes, but before I could fix that, the thing shut off. We're going to try cleaning the filter tonight but I have a feeling that wouldn't be what shut the whole thing down, would it? We've unplugged it, tripped the power to the laundry room, everything. No dice. Any ideas?

The first thing to do is to CHECK IN AND AROUND THE RUBBER DOOR BOOT (called a bellow) for small articles of clothing (like socks and underwear) that may have gotten lodged in behind the rubber. Pull the rubber back where it meets the wash tub and look behind it. It is common for small items to get stuck here, become forgotten and start to mildew. You should check this area after each wash and clean it periodically to get rid of the formation of soap scum, mold, and mildew. HINT: When you get ready to wash a load of towels, take a dirty towel and clean the door boot thoroughly (including the areas behind the rubber). Immediately place the towel in the wash and run it on a sanitary cycle. This way you eliminate the need for cleaning rags.

PERIODICALLY RUN THE WASHER ON A CLEANING CYCLE. Place the washer on the hottest setting you have (usually a Sanitary cycle) with nothing but bleach in the wash tub. Some newer models actually have a "Clean Cycle" available now just for this purpose. This helps keep the wash tub, drain lines and pump sanitized.

CHECK AND CLEAN THE DRAIN PUMP FILTER. Accumulations of debris in the drain pump filter can also cause odors. HINT: If you own a shop vac, pull the drain hose from the standpipe at the wall and pull a vacuum on the line. This will drain any residual water left in the tub, pump and drain lines BEFORE you remove the drain pump cover. This will prevent a messy clean up later.

LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN IF POSSIBLE. When not in use, leave the door open to allow the tub to air out and to keep mold and mildew from forming on the door bellow. I know this may not be desirable in some households with small children. If too much mildew forms on the rubber and it cannot be removed, replacement of the bellow may be required.

NOTE: This problem is common with front loader style washing machines. The doors on these machines have an air tight/water tight seal that is great for sealing the washer during the wash cycle, but can be terrible for collecting small garments and for not allowing the tub to properly air out when not in use. Following these simple preventive measures can go a long way towards preventing harmful mold and mildew, and towards extending the life of the door bellow and pump.

My GE Adora front loader- our clothes stink!

Clothes washing rules for mildew stink: 1) never leave clothes in machine for more than a few hours 2) never add too many detergent or clothes 3) clean the machine itself. Also if your fabric softener port is gummy there is a good chance you got some funk from that so clean all places where you have fabric softener contact. After all that, if this doesn't help you may need to run an empty load of strong hot bleach water and follow it with a hot empty rinse then a load of whites
to becareful not to ruin your colored clothes

Bad smell from washer

Hi Six,

Yeah, that's a common complaint on FL washers. I experienced it first hand myself! (I have a Whirlpool FL washer). I use this in mine about once a month and it's worked well for me. I don't have to order it, though. I pick mine up at my appliance parts place. If you have one nearby, I'd check there first.

GE Adora front load washer overloaded now won't start

Washers - Resetting Electronic Controls on a Washer

If there is a pause in the washer cycle, the controls will lock up. The pause can occur because of a power failure or it was put in the test mode at the factory.

Also, if the washer was stopped before the cycle was complete or the consumer has pushed the stop/pause button to temporarily stop the cycle and the cycle is not reset. Over a period of 24 hours, the washer will pump out and spin, but will stay in the final spin.

To correct the situation, shut off the circuit breaker for 30 seconds or unplug the washer, then turn the timer knob around and back to any position other than final spin. Verify the water is turned on and restore power. This should resolve the issue.

Ge Adora Front Loader

If you have not already done so, clean the filter behind the panel in the front bottom of the washer. Remove the three philips head screws to get the panel off. Unscrew the plastic filter on the right hand side (use a shallow cake pan to catch any water). Remove the filter and clean out the pens, pencils, change, lint, etc... and put back in. All should work well after this. Thanks, Greg
