Hey thanks for the info Sutchman & dante777, but I forgot to ask one other question. How can I tell which is the right USB ports in my device manager for the two that is for my monitor that I need to fix? It shows 5 Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller, 1 unknown device, and 5 USB Root Hub in that order from top to bottom.

In order for the two USB ports on the monitor to work, the monitor itself has to be connected to your computer via another USB cable with connectors that look like this:
my 2 usb ports on my monitor not working - 8130925.jpg
The flat connector goes into an available USB port on your computer, the square one plugs into your monitor. Check if your cable is connected properly or exchange it with another one.
To eliminate that there is something wrong with your "not recognized device", plug this device into another USB port of your computer. The reason to preferably remove the device safely in Windows is that you can loose data if you just unplug it. If it is an external harddrive, it can get damaged, because you interrupt the power and the read/write head can get "stuck". So check this device on another computer or USB port.

If you have any other questions or something is not clear to you, just come back here and leave a comment and I'm happy to help.

You can leave the Host Controller alone. Nothing to d here.
Open the Device Manager and plug in your device into the monitor.
Windows will show "unknown device" and the "Found New Hardware" tray info. If it is a USB stick, it should fix itself (at least in WindowsXP.) If it does not go past the "unknown device" stage, you might need to install a driver for whatever you plug in (also for Win2000 and 9x).

Enlighten me: what are you trying to connect?

The one in question is very likely the one that has the yellow question mark. Cameras, Bluetooth adapters etc. have to have the software installed before you connect the device to the computer, because otherwise Windows will try to install a generic driver, which often fails.

I'd try deleting them through Device Manager then reboot and if it doesn't find them, rescan for devices.

Dell LCD 1907FP 19" have

Unfortunately this is an early indicator that the LCD display panel is starting to break down and the cost to replace the part will exceed the amount of a new monitor. I recommend using present item until it completely fails. Sometimes the video cable is the issue and should be subbed provided you can detach from both ends.

It sound like a short circuit. I had this problem with 1907FP model. It had an USB port on the monitor which got damaged and it was shortening to the groung. In your case it might be a bad internal power supply board.

I'm assuming you are speaking of the USB ports on the Monitor?

Do you have the USB cable running from the back of your computer to the back of your monitor? For those ports to work, you need a USB cable that runs from the computer to your monitor. This is a cable in addition to the power cable and the video cable. Verify you have three cables connected.

If you are not speaking about the USB ports on the monitor, please advise...

Dell 1907fp USB port not working

The big question is do you have the USB uplink cabled from the monitor, connected to a USB port on the system?

Item #5 needs to be connected to your system's USB port via a USB cable. The ports on the monitor are just a USB hub.

Side USB ports

You need to connect a USB cable from your PC to the USB port under the monitor.
It is a standard usb cable used by printers with a flat plug on one end and a squareish plug on the other.
You should also have 2 more usb ports under the screen as well. There are normally 4 on Dell screens. 2 side, 2 under, and the one square plug to connect to the PC.
