I have a tefal pro express steam generator iron. The thermostat light will no longer come on and water is coming out of the sole plate (as it does when you do a self clean) there is plenty of steam so I wouldn't say it is blocked, maybe something wrong with the thermostat?? Has anyone else experienced this? I'd be grateful for advice, thanks

There is something definitely wrong with the mechanism and seal. The lamp might have been affected likewise. I think you need to replace your iron. If you can, you can try to repair it but the parts are hard to come by. Specially the silicone o ring.

SOURCE: tefal proline express steam generator iron needs de scaling

Make a solution of half water and half white vinegar. Fill up your iron and get it good and hot then let it sit a couple hours. flush out and repeat as necessary. Hope you find this helpful. Please give me a fixya rating If this works for you. It works very well as long as it is not completely filled with scale. Once you have it good and clean By a gallon of bottled water at the market and use that for your Iron and you will never have a scale problem again. I learned how to do this 20 years ago from a 80 year old woman from england. If it is really bad you can up the vinegar concentration but do not go higher than 2 cup to 1.

SOURCE: Tefal Pro Express Steam Generator doesn't.

OK... so I have fixed my problem of NO STEAM, just lots of water coming out of the iron press plate itself... I had already cleaned the boiler, so I tried adding 1/4 tsp - 1/2 tsp bicarbonate soda to the water and flushing it through. From what came out of the iron press plate, I would say the problem was caused by a build up of goop (technical term) inside the iron. Once cleared, the iron is steaming away again. Please note, u will need to have an old towel handy if this is ur problem, 'cos until it starts getting better, there is a fair amount of water coming out of the iron press plate. Just add the bicarb to the water reserve and use the steam buttons to bring the bicarb through. Do not attempt to iron clothing with the bicarb in the water!!! Carolyn ;)

SOURCE: Tefal Express 1750 has water dripping from it when using steam

That means that water is not heated properly and does not produce steam.

Try a complete descaling, often this happens because the water reservoir and heating element is covered with scale.

Steam generator wetting clothes

Heating plate has come detached from the tank. You have to remove the base and tighten the bolts on the heat plate. This ensures that the necessary temperature can be reached and thus steam rather than water comes out. Unfortunately the base is secured with security screws (6 point star with centre hole) so you will need to get one of these to fix it. They are same as used to secure number plates and can be purchased on ebay or at car parts shop

TEFAL STEAM GENERATOR GV8460 NO STEAM IRON HEATS UP

The water is heated by a metal plate that is bolted to the metal water tank, operating in pretty much the same way as a domestic kettle, the plate being the element. The plate is fixed in place by 8 or so nuts onto studs that form part of the water tank and heated by passing electrical current into this plate. Over time the nuts come loose and consequently the plate is not in full contact with the water tank. This results in insufficient heat transfer and a failure to consistently reach the required temperature to create steam. Ultimately you will need to remove the plastic base of the unit to access the plate and re-tighten the nuts. You will need a small 6 star bit with the centre punched out to remove the base as it is secured with security screws. These are readily available on ebay as they are the same as those used to secure number plates.

Sole plate leaking

This IS a steam iron? The iron must be hot for the steam to form. If it's not hot enough, the water is leaking thru the steam holes. Also if the channels are calsified (boiler stone has formed into the steam channels) this may happen.
