I work for LAUSD and have a Panasonic kx-e700m typewriter. I came back from vacation and the display reads "Machine is busy." I have tried to clear it by turning off the machine, typing "code+K" and have not been successful. It continues to read "Machine is busy." How can I clear it so I can use it again? Sonja

Hello sonya, this may or may not work, but leave power switch on, open your top cover, unplug machine and let sit for about 10-15 minutes. plug back in, close cover and see if you can type. if it still doesn't work, you're most likely looking at a "hard" failure that can only be repaired by a tech.

hth and good luck,
razors

We can't get the typewriter to type in anything but random characters. \r\nWhat do we have to do to undo what we did? Panasonic typewriter KX-E700m.

Panasonics have a set screw that holds the P/W to the shaft they come loose and need to be tightened and realigned. Not a job for the novice.

The memory is full of received documents due to a lack of paper, or a paper jam.

Install paper or clear the jammed paper.

How to clear the full memory on my Panasonic electric typewriter

To clear ALL memory, turn the machine off, then hold down the SHIFT and CODE keys while turning it back on.
Here's a halfway measure. While in normal typing mode, hold down CODE and touch TAB CLEAR to clear all tabs and margins at once. Does not affect any stored text memory.
These work with the KX-R340 and all the KX-E series. I presume they'll work with your KX-R440 also.

Display problem

Try unplugging machine for 1 minute. Plug it back in and turn on machine. If it still doesn't work, it is probably a bad board.
