I just had the same problem and I found it to be a multiple port powered USB adapter that I bought of eBay when it was off the computer shut down fine but when I powered it up the computer powered on by itself.
So I took it off completely

Ok, if you have either an actuall XP disc, or a company specific recovery disc, (Dell/Toshiba/Acer etc.), then you can run a repair. Turn the system on and enter the Setup screen. This is done by pressing something like F1, F2, or Del, it usually tells you on the bottom left of the screen.

Once you are on the settings screen, look though, and find the tab for Boot Priority. Make sure this is set to your CD/DVD first. Open the CD/DVD tray and put the disc in. Now save your settings and exit. The system will now reboot.

As the system loads, it will come up, "Press any key to boot from CD-ROM......" Press any key, and it will start the disc. Follow the on-screen instructions, either for a Windows Repair, or a Windows Recovery, depending on the disc you are using.

Hope that works for you. If you need help with anything of the above, just let me know and I'll run through it with you.

Regards

V4000 black screen and blinking cursor in left corner

ø something physically wrong with your RAM. To check this we will use a program called, Memtest86+. Once you have downloaded it to your desktop, extract the file from the Zip folder and place the ISO file on your desktop. I would then like you to burn the ISO onto a CD-R, DVD-R, CD+R, or DVD+R using programs such as Nero, or a burning studio software. If you do not have such a program, then you can download and install the free program Active ISO Burner. You can then burn the ISO to the disk with this new program or your old program.

After you have burnt it to a disk you will have to set your BIOS to make you boot up from the CD Drive first. Restart your computer and at the first loading screen keep tapping either the F1, F2, F4, F6, F8, F10, F11, F12, or Delete keys to access the BIOS. If you can not get into the BIOS refer back to system documentation for further help with accessing it. When successfully accessed the BIOS look for something that says Boot Device Priority, or Boot Sequence. Set your CD Drive as first using the arrow keys or + and - keys.

You may be a victim of software counterfeiting. This copy of Windows did not pass genuine Windows validation.

1.Restart your computer. Press "F8" repeatedly as the computer boots up, until the Windows startup options menu appears. Choose "Safe Mode" and hit "Enter."

2.Click "Start" and click "Computer" or "My Computer." Double-click your primary hard drive. Enter the "Windows" folder and the "System32" folder.

3.Scroll through the list of files until you find "wgalogon.dll" and "wgatray.exe." You can delete these files completely or, if you need WGA in the future, right-click each file, choose "Rename" and add ".bak" on the end of the file name, after the extension.

4.Click "Start" and type "Regedit" into the search box. Click "Regedit" when it appears in the search results. The Registry Editor window appears.

5.Click "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE," "SOFTWARE," "Microsoft," "Windows NT" and "Current Version." Find the "WGALogon" folder under "Current Version" and enter it. Right-click "Notify" and choose "Delete." Restart your computer normally.

Driver downloads but printer not showing up at all on the PC

If you do not have a HP Computer then try the following Steps:
Unplug the USB Cable from the computer.
Go to Start> Settings/Control Panel> Add or Remove programs and delete all the programs you see for HP.
If you are not able to deleted them the go to Safe mode and delete them.
To go to safe mode restart the computer and while restarting the PC you should keep on pressing the F8 tab in your Keyboard.
And then go to My Computer>Local Disk:C> Then Program Files> and delete the entry for HP only (Not Hewlette Packard)
Then in Local disk:C go to Windows and open Temp Folder and Empty the temp folder, and in windows folder rename TWAIN_32 as OLDTWAIN_32.
Close all the windows and open recycle bin and empty Recycle Bin.
And then if you have the All-In-One CD the insert the CD and if you get a installation screen EXIT form that.
Go to My Computer and Right click on the CD which should say CDB-AmericasEuro-Express.exe and open the folder which says UTIL> and then you should see a file whic says UNISTALL_L4
Double click on the same and and follow the on screen instruction (There are 4 Unistall Process if it Prompts to restart then try restart later and complete the full uninstall process, if it does not let you to proceed withou restarting then restart and try the same UNISTALL_L4 once again.
And after it restarts reinsert the All-In-One CD and try a fresh new install.
And before trying these steps please go to Start Settings/Control panel>then printers and faxes and delete all the icons for any printers listed there.

Good Luck
