Dryer is tumbling but no heat - when I reset it shuts off after about 10 min and the Drying, Cool Down, and Extended Tumble lights are all flashing.

Janet McDonald,

I understand that you are having trouble with your dryer not heating and not running a full cycle and shutting off with the Drying, Cool Down, and Extended Tumble lights flashing. What I suggest is to give your appliance a hard reset. You will do this by either unplugging it or cutting the power off at the circuit breaker for 3-5 minutes. After the 3-5 minutes, bring power back and try to start a cycle. If it does not complete the cycle and shuts off with the lights flashing, I suggest to either contact the manufacturer or a local appliance technician. This way you will be able to locate the cause of this issue and have it resolved.

-Best Regards-

Dryer will heat when put on 70 minute cycle but will not heat total time. if you put it on 20 minute cycle will not heat at all.

Hi, Some dryers have a cooling cycle that lasts for 20 minutes to cool the drum and its contents so you don't burn yourself when getting clothes out.

alot of machine have a max drying time of 120 minutes 20 of that will be for cooling so 100 mins hot!

the cooling cycle is usually indicated near the end of the dial in a different colour to that of the hot cycle.

Hope this helps.

The dryer begins to heat runs a few minutes then cuts off

First, wet clothes are electrically conductive. With electronic sensing dryers as the wet clothes tumble, they touch the two metal bars in the drum.8e70df0.jpg There is a capacitor on the control that is trying to build up a charge, but when wet clothes create a short from one bar to the other, this charge is released to the frame of the dryer, therefore discharging the capacitor. As long as the capacitor charge is low, the control knows the clothes are wet. As the clothes become dryer, they short the bars fewer and fewer times. Once the capacitor charge builds to a certain level, the control knows the clothes are mostly dry, and it advances the program to the final timed portion, usually less than 20 minutes, some of which is a cool down portion to reduce wrinkling. If your dryer is shutting off after only 10 minutes, that means the control capacitor is never getting discharged. This can be due to a few different reasons: 1. Sensing bar wire is disconnected or broken; 2. Load is not large enough (remember the bars must be contacted repeatedly); 3. Bars are "coated" by fabric softener build up and need to be cleaned with Windex or 409. 4. Defective control board. 5. Airflow is restricted and moisture can't escape the drum. 6. Corrosion built-up on sensing board connection.(yank out the board and clean the contacts that sometimes is all it takes on some models) Address the airflow condition and load size. Clean the sensor bars and make sure the wires are all connected securely.

Dryer drum won't spin/tumble clothes

Chances are it's a broken belt. If you hear the sound of the motor running and your dryer is heating, there's nothing else but the belt.

Changing the belt yourself is pretty easy if you can use a screwdriver and have a little mechanical ability. The new belt is around $20, and you'll save big if you don't call a service person to do it for you. A good site with a step-by-step illustrated procedure for changing the belt is here. They also sell parts, or you can find the belt locally at any appliance parts store.

Dryer flame on magtag wont stay lit. Pilot flares up but no flame

Thermocouple is probably bad. The pilot burns and heats a sensor which tells the CPU that the Flame can start, and the thermocouple heating up changes voltage with increase temperature and tells the CPU that the Flame is burning OK. If it is defective, there is no voltage change and the CPU assumes that the Flame didn't start for some reason, (Gas only!) and turns if off for safety. Over and over xx times.

Good Luck!
